Generally over the last few year there has been a trend where at least half the top 4 sides will plummet out of contention the following year, to be replaced by the surprise packet of the season. Is it going to continue?
Picking randomly - Ill start with 2004.
Teams in Red drop out of finals (in bold to bottom 4) next season
Teams with an * have risen from last years non finallists (in bold bottom 4)
2004
Sydney
Canterbury
Brisbane
Penrith
2005
*Parramatta
St George Illawarra
Brisbane
*Wests
2006
Melbourne
*Bulldogs
Brisbane
*Newcastle
2007
Melbourne
Manly
*North Queensland
*New Zealand
2008
Melbourne
Manly
*Cronulla
*Easts
2009
St George Illawarra
Canterbury
*Gold Coast
Melbourne
2010
St George
*Penrith
*Wests

2011

*Brisbane
New Zealand

A couple of things:
1) I only can think of 2 clubs not mentioned
2) Their has either been 2 clubs into the finals or two out
3) Melbourne stay up unless caught!
With that in mind - Why? And can we predict who will be in this trend in 2012?
