The Inside Ball Play

Is there a more obvious attacking play that the boys do?
The inside ball to Holmes never works and is shut down from the get-go.

Come to think of it, almost every play they do looks like they are running around on the training paddock at half pace.

No I like it.

I think if they keep practicing the move four or five times every game they might get it right by Round 23.

Heaven help those bastards we are up against in rd23.

Whooosharkkkkk .

But do youse remember last year when we actually cracked the move and Benny Churchill ran half the field to score .... only to have it reviewed and the Meanace was found to have obstructed / blocked a defender as he was running upfield.

It's just not the same as Billy Slater.

Is it the width of the pass from dummy half? The markers shut this play down with ease.

We don't even do it right... it is best done when the DH scoots and passes across the player that played the ball, then the receiver gives it back inside, this splits the markers to create the gap.

We go one off the ruck and pass it inside to a marker who is cramming in.

Talk about sticking to a playbook when it's clearly shit. No plan B.

Trent Barrett out coached us today. Let that sink in.

Compare it to Smith to Cronk then inside to Slater in their prime.

Problem is we are trying off slow players like Gallen who don't take the A defender out to create the hole.

They are trying to get Holmes into the game but it ain't working because Holmes is not a hole runner. He can't get the sweep play lines right so really doesn't threaten unless it's from broken play when his acceleration and evasion are assets.

The attack just sux right now. Maloney and Chad aren't firing and nothing is happening from 9 or 1. The table has been lying for quite some time. We are playing ordinary and got the smacking that's been coming. Interesting to see how they respond. Easts are a tough side for us to play with their speed and power.

The other problem is that's the ONLY move Holmes gets involved in. The defence sees him so they know exactly what's happening before it even happens.

65% completion - says it all really. Holmes effort was inept. Agree 2016 plays don't cut it without the hot knives of barb/ mennce

Need to keep it and develop it

One thing flanno does is persevere

In any case it isn't just about the play itself
It's about interrupting a sliding defence and creating outside opportunities

Whilst they might not be working right now, the threat of those inside balls makes middle defenders have to work all game - it's part of the 'tire them out' up the guts tactic - plus it holds defenders in the middle to create space out wide.
So, even though we might not be getting joy directly from that play, it's a vital part of our attack.

But our attack is dreadful.
The completions should have improved by now. The speed we play at should have improved by now. The contact in defence should have improved by now.

They can't be bothered

Agreed - but that's attitude & application, not tactics!

We are not playing dirty enough. More elbows, accidental forearm plus more attacking the ball. Look at Qld in game two , Storm, or even the Tigers . In the initial contact I want to see that ball fly!!!!!!!

The 2nd try today, Fekis, is a perfect illustration of what happens when you persist with good plays. The inside ball is a good play. Its just the personell are not up to it.
Seggs or Morts will make a difference, then the back 3 , especially the back 1, need to offer more. Much more.
