It is, but it's still $50m that Vegas would rather have than not, especially if they can get a good multiplier.

The AUD50m figure is very conservative. Considering that the majority of US residents who went to the match live outside of Vegas, it's significantly higher using standard economic impact calculators.

Average stay was probably two weeks but not all in lv

100 million usd is what Vegas made for a week

la and other places would’ve benefited too

If nothing else, those cities (LA, SF, San Diego) will all bid for it if travel numbers stay static or grow, which may just push what Vegas pays up.

SF has a stadium in the middle of nowhere.

So does LA, except at least it's still in the city.

San Diego doesn't even have a stadium. Well it does but it's an old dump.

Vegas is the only place people will travel to watch the games.

Las Vegas gets around 40million visitors a year https://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/News/Blog/Detail/strong-growth-for-tourism

You have to ask yourself how much money the would be willing to spend to add another 15 or 20k to this number, and what value proposition it would give?

What a dumb response….

The reason they get 40mil visitors is because they do events like this 1000 times a year.

The events obviously need to make economic sense, but Australian cash is still good in the US.

If they started saying “no need to look for new events, we already get 40mil visitors a year” how long before the visitors umbers start to drop?

Such a “RL good old-boys” comment….

These dopes don’t realise the arlc is already getting paid by Las Vegas to host these events

now they can see how many Aussie and English visitors came the payment will reflect this

if anything the numbers will go up especially if English teams are added

How many events are their In vegas every year? Do you think the reason they are getting that $60bil is maybe because they are continuously looking for events to draw people to the city?

and maybe an event that can bring $50mil to the city might be a good addition….

or is it just lucky? Haha, ok

I love that we have broken the “NRL cant happen in the US” barrier for it to be immediately replaced with “NRL could only work in the US if it is in LasVegas”…

If you could guarentee 20k tourists spending +$50mil in the city economy and all you need to spend is $10-15mil to host the game, you would have to be a dumb tourism board not to bid.

And dont tell me LV is the only city in the US that appeals to tourists. Just no…

Lmao at the logic in this thread.

Pay an entity to fill a stadium to 2/3rd capacity for one day once a year.

Wouldn't it make more sense to find a global superstar and pay them to fill the same stadium to capacity for three or four nights running?

Was quoted as 1.25 million for the 5 years in an article, can't remember which one.
Not chicken scratch thats for sure, but who knows if there is scope to renegotiate a higher fee now it is known how many people flew there.

Look at it this way, pay 250k and get 20k international visitors to your city and 50 million bux
Or
Pay millions of dollars for an international superstar and get a decent return as well but you can't do that every week so the NRL still is a valuable proposition.

I'm not sure why you keep saying that the NRL is getting nothing from the Las Vegas tourism. There has been multiple articles before the event saying Las Vegas tourism had paid for the event and was offering other subsidies, the NRL lists them as an event sponsor (not partner, they are specifically called out as a sponsor) and the whole conversation in the past 3 pages of this thread has been about Chammas saying on Triple M that the "NRL was planning on re-negotiating their deal with Tourism LV after exceeding initial expectations".

Lol they get a shit load of domestic tourism every time the Raiders play.

Every away fan uses it as an excuse to do a trip to Vegas.

Same will apply once the Athletics get a stadium built.

The locals give no f**ks if the tourism dollars are domestic or international.

This is it. The ROI multiplier Las Vegas tourism is making from an NRL game is far higher than what they'll make the F1s, NASCAR, etc. The bigger the event, the more you have to pay, also the smaller the profit margin is.

Vegas can and will bid for the big stuff, but you can only get so many big events and they have 170,000+ rooms to fill each night. Las Vegas tourism also paid for Barcelona and Milan to come and play at the same stadium the NRL did, plus other club football friendlies and internationals which again have attracted crowds, often less, than what the NRL did, and brought far less international visitors.
