The article today about it says most are fine with the ESTA visa. So most likely is no issue especially as the PR tour was sorted quickly

120 people across different locations is no easy logistical feat.

Which is probably why the NRL should have been responding back in October when clubs were asking questions, instead of leaving it to the last minute.

For months, the NRL indicated to the clubs that players could travel to the US on an ESTA, which waives the traveller from needing a visa.

The Broncos sought their own travel advice while the other clubs were concerned about players being stopped and turned around by US customs officers. They had been asking for a definitive answer about visas since October 18.

There really is no defence for them ignoring it for 3 months and then suddenly changing advice 6 weeks out. There's a good chance that any players with a criminal record applying now, won't get it sorted out in time. They should have been starting it 6 weeks ago.

I know some league players are a bit rough and ready but how many actually will be ineligible?
Plenty would be ineligible for a waiver (which is what an ESTA is). Very few would be ineligible for a visa, provided it was subject to the extra checks and processing time.

edit:

sorry I misread that in relation to the linked article, as it actually talks about ineligibility waivers which are another thing entirely.

basically if you’re a cleanskin you just need an ESTA, no need to apply for a visa.

if you have a few minor convictions you can still get a visa, but that takes a little while to get approved.

if you have more serious convictions you will will need an ineligibility waiver, which could take quite a bit of time and probably require some assistance.

if you’re a real rotten bastard you won’t get any of them, but the NRL probably wouldn’t register you anyway.

How many would fail the ineligible for a waiver criteria? If they have committed any acts under 212a.2 they wouldn't be playing in the NRL anyway.

Pretty much everyone convicted of a criminal offence in court won’t get an ESTA. That includes DUIs, drug offences, serious traffic offences, assault/disorder offences… pretty much the typical things footy players often get pinged for.
I should reiterate that does not mean you can’t apply for and get a visa or an ineligibility waiver- it just means you’re considered enough of a risk that the USA won’t happily let you in without one.

And we're off...... :D:D:D

In regards to PR, and others on the opposite side of the totem pole
the actual magic figure is 45,814
That's how many turned up to the double header in Perth this year.
Get under that figure and PR will be within his rights to gloat that Perth got more than Vegas
However if the crowd goes over that number, the others will be saying that Perth don't deserve a team because they can't even beat a crowd figure where Rugby League isn't played.
Once again, the magic figure

45,814

Be hilarious if it gets less than the perth doubleheader lol
therell be hookers on the strip giving out free tickets with every blow job soon.

Arrested but was he convicted? Its a genuine question as I don't know.

Pled guilty and given a good behaviour bond without a conviction recorded. So he should be fine.

So Blake Solly couldn't ask one of their owners IF they'd see a problem with any of their players getting in?

Or Manly, Scott Penn spends more time in the US then here. He wouldn't know the process and length of time?

Teams hadn't booked their training base or even had their training plans sorted then. That had to be locked in BEFORE the Visa

Haas also got off without conviction on a good behaviour bond:

this is one of the main reasons lawyers try to get these sort of sentencing results- criminal convictions make international travel difficult.

he may have other priors though.

I thick Selwyn Cobbo has a conviction for driving without a license.

If the NRL wants to sell tickets fast, they need to sign a rock band to start off the season with a bang, maybe a well known band from the US will entice more Americans, to come along and watch our game for the first time, so why not NRL sign one up now and hurry the f**k up...

It's embarrassing that you're even defending this.

And no they didn't have to book training facilities before applying for a visa. You don't even need to have booked flights or a hotel to get the ESTA. It's no use locking in a training base if people can't even go because they can't get a visa.
