Rugby League will never ever make a decent dent in the American sporting scene. Not in a country already saturated with NFL, NBA, Baseball and Hockey..

By all means keep coming to Vegas for Rd1 and bring in a couple English teams (or Catalan) etc. It’s a great concept. I hope to go one day (so I can infiltrate Area 51 lol) The Missus would love a few days in Vegas.

But don’t ever think rugby league (or the other code for that matter) will ever be even semi-big in the USofA!!

What don’t you guys understand that the point isn’t to make rugby league ‘big’ or ‘semi big’ or even ‘slightly big’ there. It’s to take even a tiny 1% of the market which would be massive revenue for NRL. And with the right approach it is possible.

I don't think anyone ever thought that except for the manically optimistic or media looking to sell a story.

Look no further than NRL fans themselves for what the model should look like. How many follow an NFL team in the off season. There's enough similarities that although it may not be your preferred choice, still similar enough to enjoy. A couple of US based players and you would would make it easier to market, similar to Jordan Mailata.

If you even got half the proportion of NFL fans to tune into NRL, as NRL fans that tune into the NFL. Going to be a massive amount of extra interest.

Soccer hasnt been able to take 1% of the market and its a world game with a sht load more money, clubs, jnrs and profile than RL will ever have in USA. But hey sure its good to have ambitions.

Like I said soccer has been at it decades, is a world game, has a massive jnr base and a prof league with very rich and famous backers for many years. Come back to me in 30 years and let me know if NRL has managed to crack it with one showcase event a year in Vegas lol

Vegas will make a healthy profit for the nrl as an event game

All the other benefits which are many are a bonus

Nobody is saying rugby league will be a serious player in America

But it might help the league in America and Canada develop

Even if they just increase subscriptions to watch nrl by a few thousand Americans a year that’s a good thing

You’re underestimating the size of the US market. MLS is triple the size of the NRL in terms of revenue. They average 24,000 a game. Even considering their ‘tiny’ support as you state in comparison to the big sports there.

If NRL could be a quarter as big in the US as major league soccer that would be massive.

While Soccer has its global appeal to build leverage, NRL has the advantage of being a similar game to the biggest sport in the US to leverage. Making it easier for fans to understand and get into the game, and easier for players to transition to the sport.

If we could grow a small niche and help build the sport in the US, grow player development especially targeting college players that don’t make NFL teams, attract NFL fans during their offseason, that would be massive. To go from zero profile to a tiny profile in the US would be a win. A small wave of support in the US would be a tsunami in Australia.
