What don’t you guys understand that the point isn’t to make rugby league ‘big’ or ‘semi big’ or even ‘slightly big’ there. It’s to take even a tiny 1% of the market which would be massive revenue for NRL. And with the right approach it is possible.

NFL and CFL are visually almost identical (IIRC the only distinction is metric vs imperial measurements).

but is a single sentence, you were able to communicate that they are different things and given a way for them to search it (the only people who cant tell the difference between NFL and CFL are dyslexic or geniused)

Now imagine the comps wer actually Football League and Football Union. If you try to tell us that you immediately know these are different sports, youre a f**king liar.

The CFL has 3 downs vs the NFL's 4. That's a big difference...

The CFL did originate from rugby union in the late 19th century.

Salary cap is currently CA$5,585,000 p.a.

I saw a documentary on this a while back. One of the biggest moments in that sport`s development was the allowance of the forward pass.
Apparently it was allowed in one part of the country and unallowed in the rest before it was accepted across the whole sport. You can imagine how that would have revolutionised the game.
Struck me how it was a case of the yanks taking a hide-bound sport like union and popularising it through a few innovations.

Soccer in the 1850s had different rules around England. Some areas use of hands was banned in others you were allowed to pick up the ball

Think it was Sheffield rules where they banned picking up the ball whilst rugby (based on the myth of William Webb ellis) adopted rugby rules

The game of rugby previously discussed the ideas of reducing players to 13 and bringing in the play the ball which they rejected.

Later rules which the northern union chose to adopt to make rugby more appealing to paying fans

The original rugby game wasn’t abour scoring tries (lol)

It was purely a battle of scrums where they tried to push the other side over the try line for a goal. The backs job was to feed the ball back into the scrum if the ball came out

Mostly correct. Rugby didn’t service from Soccer though. Both Soccer and Rugby developed out of earlier mob football games.

There were many variants. Mostly depending on time of the year - like around holidays etc

Normally had very little rules but the goal was to move a ball or ball-like thing against an opposing town to agreed upon landmarks. I think originally the landmarks would be each town's church when available.

I do like that they consistently do the comparison to American Football:

“Instead of 4 downs…”
“Instead of a touch down…”
“No pads, no forward passing”

It is obvious a good comparison for rules (RL is only 2 degrees separated from AF). But is also sets up the idea “if you like NFL, youll like this too”

Imagine AFL trying to do this:
“Instead of 4 downs, we run around like headless seagulls fighting over cold chips”

They don't assume. Anyone attracted to our event will probably go to NRL.com anyway if they want more. Once interested enough they'll inevitably stumble on the fact that there are two different versions... Oh and also discover that there is a third version at the Olympics that is different again.
