Who cares even 5 or 10 would be nuts, not to mention the 6 weeks of publicity dominating the start to the season overshadowing anything any other code can offer and making one in particular looking particularly insular and unloved anywhere but in a couple of small states in Oz.

Las Vegas spent $60 million to get the Super Bowl. So I think $20 million might be a bit of an overestimation. There's a few moving parts, Super Bowl would bring in much larger amounts of high net-worth individuals. But the NRL would likely bring in longer staying attendees. But it wouldn't be close to a 1/3 of the Super Bowl. The publicity for Vegas in it's domestic market probably accounts for over 50% of this figure. Something the NRL won't be able to reproduce.

We're working within an approximate $7 million budget for the event though. Every bit of contribution to getting this event to break-even is important. Once it's breaking even, the NRL gets the potential benefits (uplift in broadcast, sponsorship and gambling revenues) without or with very little financial risk.

If it’s selling out after five years there’s also the potential to get other cities to bid

And the cost of the season launch which is saved should come off the Vegas figure

Personally, even if it breaks even and creates publicity for the game of rugby league, that's great. I asked a simple question of how he came up with $20m. Surely Wb1234 must have based it off something so should be simple to answer or did he just make up a number?

It's most likely just wishful thinking. As @nko11 outlined, LVCVA would not pay $20m for the NRL based upon what they have paid for other much bigger events (ie. Super Bowl).

Realistically if we can get a couple of million from LVCVA, continue to get over a million from sponsorships and then sell out the venue, that will comfortably cover the $7m budget.

I do feel though for us to get to those values, we need to find more ways of extending the event across multiple days. The National Rodeo Finals, which drew only 15K a day when the deal was signed, get over $2.5m from the LVCVA, but that event runs for a week. The Mint400 gets over $2m (crowd of around 12-14K), but it also runs multiple days.

If you hadn`t noticed we are in a code war in this country competing for the best young talent. The fumbles attempted to lure Tom Trbojevic, Stephen Chrichton, amongst others when they were young. And we continually see the union mob spruiking their international profile.
Anything that that convinces young sportspeople to stick with our code, maybe even give it a go in non-traditional states is a positive side benefit and worth mentioning as far as I`m concerned.
