Can’t be arsed reading hundreds of posts, is Pumpkin Spice Palpatine going to be attending?
Him & Elon are the Touchies for the Jillaroos/soap dodgers game.

They may even make a public appearance if they can coax them out of the dressing rooms....

I was at the media launch yesterday and it was off the charts. Packed out, felt like a carnival of excitement. The feeling was overwhelming and yet felt like it’s still in its infancy. Similar like atmosphere to Magic Round in Brisbane but in Vegas. Everywhere I’ve went this week there’s NRL jerseys everywhere. I agree with some that the Yanks won’t understand or necessarily get behind this, well in the short term anyway. But this is for the fans of the game from the heartlands to come together and celebrate League. It will sell it every year from here on. Word of mouth will drive this.

What i like to see from this Las Vegas venture is for some college players to have a crack at rugby league and eventually become NRL footballers.

Have providers like Netflix and Amazon become more familiar with the sport and that down the track they could get involved in tv rights.

Also build relationships with sporting clubs ,businesses, influential individuals, sponsors etc. But of course, getting noticed in America / Vegas won't happen overnight.

What did you expect after two years that it would be a big sport in America ??? lol

Getting 50k people watching rugby league in America is a huge achievement

Even 60k watching on Foxsports in America is a great result

What’s the alternative ?

Have the season launch as taking a photo with the nrl captains of the harbour bridge then Canberra v warriors in Canberra then sharks v Penrith at shark park

Lots of people are talking about rugby league. Many who have never heard of the sport before

All the social media it’s getting will be seen by millions and millions

Without diving into views on the concept which I haven't provided what are the historical and current TV ratings in Aus for the Superbowl and how has that translated into an expansion of gridiron here?

Pretty confident they have allocated 332 and 333 for the 9's teams and possibly 316 as well. Which would be another 680 extra tickets sold that I didn't include in my earlier model. I would say not too far off 50k sold now.

Cant say for here but getting NFL on Ch4 in the Uk back in the 80's saw the game grow over there from nothing to national leagues and lots of amateur clubs at all ages. That led to the ill fated prof world league featuring a UK prof club that drew 50k+ crowds at Wembley (sadly never got chance to keep going) which eventually morphed into a 16 club semi pro European league (https://europeanleague.football/) .
Also led to NFL games being taken to England.
Its still somewhat popular in UK at amateur level 40 years later with around 80 mens amateur clubs in UK but interest has certainly reduced compared to some other Eurpean countries.
I played for Kingston Liberators (Hull) and Scarborough Warlords back in my youth as the Ch4 covg got me hooked from being 12!
If we can get NRL on FTA or major tv in USA then we may see a similar groundswell over the next few decades. Buts its a long term commitment at numerous levels to get any sort of traction.

In the hard copy version of the SMH today, they reported the estimation from the NRL that around 45,000 tickets had been sold for the games at the time of writng of the article.

They should now just flog the last 10k tickets the last couple days before to all hotels as a giveaway and push the attendance towards 60k

“According to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo:

Outside of the benefit we get here domestically, in America we’ve now got sponsors that are incremental. We would not have had these sponsors had we not been growing in America. We’ve got a successful travel experience for fans, and we’ve got incremental subscriptions on Watch NRL, so you’ve got real revenue coming in which allows to us to now invest in expansion, and invest in a better product here.
The move is also part of a grand vision to grow the game internationally.

The NRL has announced a team from Papua New Guinea will join the league in 2028. It is also aiming for more integration with the Super League in England, perhaps one day eyeing franchises in the US and the Pacific.

The NRL is also conscious of the US National Football League’s venture into Melbourne in 2026 and the competition that could bring for Pacific talent.“

PVL organising to get an England game on is very smart on his part. He is a dag, but a great ideas man. Probably the best in the short history of the game.
