And forgot other cities hosting this event. This event is only successful because it’s in Vegas - a holiday destination that many aussies and brits like to visit. Even LA would be a stretch, but Sofi stadium would be a potential second option but I’d keep it at Vegas and keep building it as a Vegas event.

The only other cities viable for a one off event IMO are Miami and New Orleans.

Nola has an artificial playing surface.

Unless you think people want to go to Glendale...

The rest of the stadiums with grass don't have roofs and are I cities which do not have tourist friendly weather in early March.

I’ve been to New Orleans a few times over the past 20 years ….its a pretty ordinary place IMO and has some safety concerns …

“Manoa, 25, has not yet made his NFL debut but played 54 games in his collegiate career between UCLA and the University of Arizona.”

This is a bit of a missed opportunity to get a celebrity, any celebrity that might draw a bit of media attention. This guy won’t generate any interest at all. Even a non football related celebrity, some B grade actor, would’ve been better.

The best person to do this would’ve been The Rock.

No but this is the sort of person that should be the target to come across and play the sport.

So it could still serve a purpose

Does LA have grass? I don’t think the climate is much of an issue there. But yeah otherwise I’d be wary, you need cities that are also destinations in themselves.

The NRL didn't just pick Vegas for no reason. Likely Nevada was easier to deal with to put on events than California and other places suggested previously

It's synthetic. They were going to lay grass for the soccer world cup but they pissed off Fifa or something and lost the games

The 49ers stadium is possible except its a long way from San Francisco.

He's on 840k to train with an NFL team and not play a game. Why would he come to the NRL?

Because there is only so long those sort of players stay in the League.

Him personally is too big for the game but how many guys he played with in College didn't make the NFL? Or have been cut from practice squads not playing anywhere?

So just him saying he is doing it may open those sort of players to game even existing. Which lifts the local standard and in turn their test team

I'm not sure some nobody blowing a horn is going to get college football players to try out rugby league. Especially when that nobody earns more than all but about 2-5 players in the biggest league in the sport.

Sounds like Port Moresby. Let's see if PVL can get Albo to pay for the NRL to launch their season in PNG. Players and officials can stay at the compound once it is built.

Yep no college players are going to play rugby league because a guy blew a horn. I think after Dana white didn’t do it they thought the next best thing was to get whatever raiders player they could find to blow it. But I think they should’ve focused on getting some celebrity instead just to attract a bit of media attention.

I know you have to be negative with everything NRL related. But use your brain

But Canberra having just gone door knocking on every players door asking them to do them a favour.

What has likely happened here is through the Stadium or a 3rd party they would of put the request to the Raiders.

Given the time of year and a fee being paid. LV Raiders would of put requests in via the player agents. Who then found someone.

In some cases the player agent will go with the player, which now brings awareness to someone who has and will have players missing out on being drafting or losing a Practice squad position.

With the combine that makes it possible to get an NRL deal

What celebrity is just sitting around that can be there in 48 hours notice?

I think they put all their attention on building the horn and they thought they could do exactly that - get someone famous who’s around to do it with short notice.

They should’ve put just as much energy on who’s gonna blow it.

Gronk and co don’t want to do it because it could really backfire for them… come and blow this novelty horn at a sport game most Americans have never heard of before. They don’t want to end up a social media meme.
