I saw the goals - 2 were tap-ins and one was a penalty but his first was a brilliant dummy shot to deceive the keeper.

It wasn't just how he scored them though that mattered. It was the fact that he had to get one more than Ronaldo just hours after he did. It's like playing some sort of on-field mindgame ahead of Wednesday.

Pretty sure he's only played 8 or 9 games this year. So he's going better than a goal a game.

He won't get to last years tally if Barca get knocked out by Milan. Straight away that's four less matches compared to last year.

True although I think there are more Argentina qualifiers which could make up the difference.

I thought it was 17? I read it was a world record for consecutive goals in the league, beating an 80 year old or so record from Poland.

Probably is - I've maybe lost track.

If you have a link showing it's 17, that'd be great.

Numbers 17 and 18 for 2013 against Milano. Puts him within 3 goals of second place on the all-time European Cup goalscorers list:

Raul 71, 144 games
Van Nistelrooy 60, 88 games
Shevchenko 59, 116 games
Messi 58, 76 games

Goals 19 & 20 were scored this morning against Rayo Vallecano.

18 straight league games with a goal now. Don't know if it's ever been done before, but i'll be surpirsed if i ever see a run like that again in my lifetime.

Same. Im 26 so never really got to see Maradona or van Basten.

Ive had the pleasure of seeing Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, Christiano Ronaldo, and Ronaldo at his peak which was truly a sight to behold, and his particular qualities are not likely something ill ever see again from a striker...

But there's no doubt that Messi stands alone above them all. And even if i live for another 50 years i'll be staggered if i see a player that approaches his greatness.

Im still coming to terms with the genius of his first goal vs AC Milan...the first touch control and speed he showed to get off that incredible shot. It's one of the best goals ive ever seen, without alot of people ever realising just how good it was.
