Round 6 results
Bondi Beasts 92 defeated Rhinos XIII 61
Beasts Highest scoring side from round 6
Top performers - Jonathon Thurston Cpt & kicker 30 points,
Gareth Widdop 15
All but one starting forward Dan Hunt scored for the Beasts, not surprisingly this is exactly why the beasts are one of the teams to beat in 2011.
Rhinos scorers Jamie Soward kick 11 points, all forwards scoring points. M Minichiello scored 10 off the bench

Bulls 71 defeated Los Bastardos 44
Bulls - Despite being binned Hayne scored 12, & every forward contributed with points, great team effort. Key to success is every payer contributing only 4 players failed to notch points, those being FaiFai loa, A Graham, Thompson & Merrin. This is exactly why the Bulls are runaway favourites with the bookies.
Bastardos Average across the board, Cpt & kick m Gordon only 8 points. Nathan Fien disrupted the build up being a late withdrawal, he would not have made up the point difference. Bastardos are starting to struggle, and really could not cope on the big stage against the favourites.

Dribbling Pooches RLFC 70 defeated Orange Alpacas 58
Pooches had excellent contributions from Gasnier cpt 14, Ferguson 11, Marshall kck 12. The Pooches really need to hit ome form or they’ll be left mid table.
Alpacas, Boyd starred 14 points, not having a quality ½ back really hurting. This fact is disrupting their backline flow, as a result they are still propping up the back end of the table.

Lions RLFC 69 defeated Maniac Marauders 38
Lions had a morale boosting victory over the Marauders. Idris had a MOM performance contributing 17 points all backs except the error prone Wesser contributing to overall winning score
Marauders Best players this week were Bolton 11 points, However players nder most pressure to perform or be dropped are A Minichiello, Uate, Tonga & cpt Champion. The Marauders really need more early, quality ball to their outside backs.

Random.Suspects 90 defeated The Spare Bats 57
The 2nd placed Suspects kept on keeping on with another solid performance. MOM performance from Barba 18 pts, Smith kck/Cpt 16, zillman 11 points, buhrer from bench 10

The Bats would not have been happy with their lacklustre performance. Last week was a great opportunity to make a move upwards on the ladder. Best performers were Ballin Cpt 14, Yow Yeh & Sau 7 points

Table
Bulls 13 points +136
Suspects 11 Points +93
Beasts 10 Points +156
Pooches 9 Points +20
Bastardos 8 Points -8
Rhinos 7 Points -24
Bats 5 Points – 39
Lions 5 Points -68
Marauders 1 Point -133
Alpacas 1 Point -133

Round 7 fixtures

Fri - Manic Marauders (9) V The Spare Bats (7) @ House of Pain
Sat - Bondi Beasts (3) V Lions RLFC (8) @ Woolahra Oval
Sat - Bulls (1) V random Suspects (2) @ Bull Pen
Sun - Dribbling Pooches (4) V Los Bastardos (5) @ High St Coliseum
Sun - Orange Alpacas (10)V Rhinos XIII (6) @ Great Western hotel

All 5 games could have a marked impact on the ladder at the completion of round 7.

Friday night sees the seventh placed Spare bats travel to The Hose of Pain to take on the 9th placed Marauders. This battle is sure to be won up front.
Key match ups
The centre pairings Ayshford & Kenny-Dowall take on Tonga & Champion, whoever gets the best quality early ball could well earn their side a much needed victory.
Tip - Bats 72 Defeat Marauders 70 in a thrilling golden point victory.

Saturday afternoon we have The Beasts at home to the Lions, the Lions will fancy their chances this week as they look to be the team most underachieving at this point of the season and will need to turn their season around.

Who will win the game
For the Beasts it is hard to go past the stellar form of Melbourne duo fullback Slater, & winger Duffie. If the Lions can stop JT giving them quality service it will go a fair way to ensuring a boilover.
The Lions will look to Lockyer, Idris & Nightingale to delver the goods once again. Isaac Luke has been in average form and are expecting him to hit a purple patch oh so very soon.
Tip – Lions in a massive upset in a fairly low scoring game. Lions 56 - Beasts 48

The game of the round is on Saturday night, this game is predicted to draw a 70,000+ crowd at the newly renovated Bull Pen.
Well this really is going to be a game of epic proportions, could this be an early grand final preview ?
There are superstars all over the field. The top of the table Bulls have the most underrated forward pack in the Marauders Cup, led by the always probing Robbie Farah. The bulls have a backline that really contributes every week, possibly their greatest strength.
Suspects have a few international powerhouses in key positions. The under achieving Inglis in the centres, a future superstar barba in 5/8, Cpt & kicker the ever reliable Cameron Smith.
Tip – This could be the highest scoring game of the century suspects 104 defeat Bulls 98

Bastardos travel away to the daunting High St coliseum to take on the Pooches.
Bastardos have been carrying a few big name players, in particular noted try scorer B Morris. It is a known fact that when he crosses the line it is often for multiple four pointers, is this his week ?
The pooches also have quality in every part of their 17, Gasnier in the centres, Marshall in the halves and forward powerhouses Taylor, Harrison & new sensation Gillett.
Tip Pooches to sneak away in a comfortable win 86-52

Sunday sees the rhinos travel away to the Great Western Hotel to tackle the underperforming Alpacas.
Alpacas have a few real quality ke players. The are in positions that can really have an impact on the scoreboard. Gidley & Mullen in the halves, Jennings in the centres, Petero & Tupou in the forwards. Any side that has try assist king Cronk on the bench would like their chances.

You think the Alpacas have strength in key positions, well so do the Rhinos, Hodges & Cooper in the centres, Pearce & Soward in the halves, workhorses Hindmarsh Watmough & Luck in the pack. Wow what a game this promises to be.
Tip Rhinos 72- Alpacas 66

Bats name new look team to face struggling Marauders.
An article by A.Writer : 20/04/2011

After two blowout losses on the trot to the Bulls and Suspects the Bats have been left searching for answers and the indefinite suspension of club Captain and Round 1 Pick Todd Carney forcing the club to make it's most difficult decision in its short history.

Coach Monk terminated Carney's contract, which was rumoured to be worth about 1,000,000 Celery's over 4 years, and included 8 Kicker Points. This freed up a rather large portion of the Celery Cap and allowed the pick-up of Bryson Goodwin from the Free Agent Pool. Goodwin not only poses a lot of Try Scoring and Line break potential, but gives the club a Goal Kicker, which is something that they have been without for the entire season. With the contract termination, Carney was forced to hand back his free Spare Bats Beanbag, as well as Spare Bats branded ShamWOW. Carney thanked the club for it's treatment of him over the last two years of his career, and apologised for his behaviour.

Carney's replacement at captain is likely to be Hooker Matt Ballin, who has been playing well for the club all season, and is very experienced. "The simple fact is, Bally has been playing great, he kept us in the game last week against the Sussies. His 14 Points were invaluable and it really showed me that he is ready for this Captaincy. He has really earned his place at the club."

Along with Carney, High Draft pick Kevin Locke and early-season pick-up Mose Masoe were cut from the Spare Bats squad late last night. When asked about Locke's removal from the squad, Coach Monk said "they were simply not performing, Locke was earning quite a bit of Celery and just wasn't playing the way a guy earning that much Celery should be playing". Locke was replaced by in-form Centre, Wes Naiqama. Wes not only brings a solid Try-Scoring record to the club, but also the ability to kick goals, in the absence of Goodwin. Monk also said "It was unfortunate that we had to let Mose go, but the reality is, we needed a Five-Eight to back up Wadey (new starting 5/8 Wade Graham), and with Ray (Thompson) just sitting on the Free Agent Wire, we couldn't afford to not grab him".

With the three new addition's to the team, the side to face the bottom of the table Marauders this week is very different to the side who was smashed the previous two weeks. "They are playing like a new team" Assistant Coach Plonk said. "It's almost as if the cutting of Toddy and Kev was a message, saying, if you don't perform, you're out of here. The mood in the camp has changed and we can definitely give the defending premiers a run for their Celery".

The side is under no illusions going into Friday nights clash, "I've known Coach Abpanther for a long time" said Coach Monk in a press interview early this afternoon. "He is one of the best in the game, he isn't going to let his side continue playing at such a low level. They have so many weapons on their side and they are going to be a tough team to beat, but we have a great side too, and we have trained really well. It will be a good game"

The side to take on the Marauders this week is as follows:

1. Gerard BEALE
2. Antonio WINTERSTEIN
3. Shaun KENNY-DOWALL
4. Blake AYSHFORD
5. Bryson GOODWIN (k)
6. Wade GRAHAM
7. Trent HODKINSON
8. David SHILLINTON
9. Matt BALLIN (c)
10. Martin KENNEDY
11. Shaun FENSOM
12. Jeremy SMITH
13. Beau SCOTT

14. Frank-Paul NUUAUSALA
15. Ryan HINCHCLIFFE
16. Junior SAU
17. Jharal YOW YEH

18. Wes NAIQAMA
19. Mitch BROWN

Bondi Beasts

The Beasts got off to a flying start in their Savannah tour last week, posting a big score against the Rhinos to claim a strong victory over tough opposition. Coach Magic was very impressed with the performance of his star players, who carried the Beasts over the line, but was disappointed in the efforts of his three-quarters and bench. There is a feeling within the club that this lineup is capable of more than it's delivering, however the ability of the team to post big scores with several players misfiring is encouraging.

This week the Beasts take on the Lions, in the grudge match that the club looks most forward to each year. Having annihilated the Lions in both encounters last year, history appears to be on the Beasts' side, but the Lions' lineup is a lot more formidable in season 2011. Falling on ANZAC day and with both clubs hitting some form, the script couldn't have been written any better for what shapes up to be a fiery encounter.

When asked about this week's match on NRL on Fox last night, Bondi captain Billy Slater summed up the feelings between the two camps, "We don't hate them...we would just hate to lose to them. Luckily for us that hasn't happened yet. I guess there's a bit of mutual respect for each other, but the best way to put it is it's like playing against your little brother...there's no way you're gonna let them get one over you. Having been here last year I've been talking it up to the boys and I've let all the new guys know what they're in for. They'll be up for it."

Rumours are rife that there's been a bit of tension between Johns Magic and Big Sam behind closed doors lately, but Bondi media manager Lara Bingle assured NRLCEO that this was not the case. However an unnamed Bondi insider was quoted as saying "I think there's been a bit of an issue regarding trust...from what I hear Sam did something which he hoped wouldn't be taken the wrong way, but Magic is filthy and reckons he deserves more from someone he considers a good mate. I won't say anymore because the coach is a very private man, but he's helped out the Lions a bit lately with Sam being away and it just felt like a bit of a slap in the face."

Completely focussed on getting a victory this week, Magic has refused to add to the speculation, but successfully fighting a suspension against lock Chris Heighington is a plain indication that he wants as many big guns on deck as possible. The Lions have a monster pack at the moment who trampled all over the top of the Marauders last week, and the battle in the middle is the area Magic is most concerned about.

The Beasts have made just one personell change for the week, with John Sutton making his club debut and taking the place of Justin Carney on the bench. A tactical change has also been made, Jonathan Thurston transferring the captaincy to Billy Slater.

Bondi Beasts Lineup for Round 7:

1. Billy Slater (c)
2. Matt Duffie
3. Steve Michaels
4. Steve Matai
5. Daniel Vidot
6. Gareth Widdop
7. Jonathan Thurston (k)
8. Dan Hunt
9. Nathan Friend
10. Tim Mannah
11. Chris Heighington
12. Ash Harrison
13. Glenn Stewart

14. Jesse Bromwich
15. Justin Horo
16. John Sutton
17. Esi Tonga

The Prancing Pooches have been named subject to late change due to the late withdrawl of Gillett. Best and Pomeroy both start as well due to them playing the cowboys. This could change. B Stewart is really annoying me.

THE MANIAC MARAUDERS

Another crushing defeat by the not highly touted Lions has staff and local fans fearing for the health of coach Abpanther.

The coach has not been seen all week, a far cry from his usual confident self, where he is more than happy to give out press conferences and maintain a positive vibe.

The local media are also concerned, reports from those close to him say that he has not been eating and his health is slowly deteriorating.

"A friend of his is really worried about him, he found bottles of Jack Daniels and Jim Beam dumped in his front yard, he's obviously not in a good place at the moment"

Friends and family are on alert watch, meanwhile the players have made a pact to lift, otherwise their coach may be headed for a nervous breakdown.

Josh Dugan may be a late inclusion

Guys I have plenty of depth at fullback with Josh Dugan, William Hopoate and James Roberts (supposedly a superstar talent). I'm interesting in trading one of them, very keen to upgrade my forward pack, if you're interested please PM me

Big Sam and the Lions are back and are pleased to name their team for the Round 7 local derby against the Bondi Beasts.

After some poor showings in recent weeks the team bounced back to form with a comprehensive victory over the hapless Marauders thanks largely to a Man of the Match performance from centre Jamal Idris.

This week the Lions take on arch rivals the Beasts. Having spent the last fortnight in Spain, Big Sam has witnessed the Barcelona/Real Madrid rivalry first-hand but believes the Beasts/Lions clash to be even bigger and more bitter. In the two clubs' most recent encounter, the Lions prevailed in a tight game at the end of last season. The match is widely believed to have contributed greatly to the Beasts' spectacular collapse/choke in last season's Play-Offs.

Team wise, the recent acquisitions of QLD Origin pair Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker, along with Timana Tahu, will add some much needed grunt and firepower to an overall underachieving side.
