It is a no brainer that Hagan will not be our coach beyond 2009. However should we sack him now or honour his contract and wait until 2010 ?

i think the majority if not all of us would tell you what we like done, but unfortunately we've painted ourselves in a corner with this bloke at the club and with half a dozen retrenchments at the football club in the past fortnight and the fact that the leagues club decided to cut a chunk of funding to the football and the NRL team we're simply in a situation where we can't do nothing else but ride the storm for 12 months.

What should and what will happen is probably a given. I just need to pre-warn the pessimists. :D

You can still vote Stagger. Remember they read these forums. The power of the people may get us over the line. :D

Stagger, what we are talking about is real business decision here.

If we retain the current coaching set up, simple maths should tell the powers that be that attendances and season ticket sales etc would likely diminish more than the payout we would be required to pay.

DF unfortunately, would probably not want to be seen admitting to a mistake, but in essence the board need to stand up and look at this closely. Regrettably they have no spine, they tend to be a little cautious of the demeanour of the CEO, and protective of their blazers so to speak.

A business decision in this case appears to be more important, not sure that they have the backbone to do it, hopefully they do read the forums, although some of them are perhaps not too internet savvy, mores the pity.

It sound like we are in a dire financial state, worse than people like myself expected who are not in the loop have realised.

Who lost their jobs?

I kinda kep it to myself until it was made public but thanks to Weidler he spilt the beans this morning in his column.

Grant Jones

"Aunty" Kaye Fitzhenry

Jarrod "Gur" Anderson.

there's also been 2 other retrenchments in marketing last week.

Its the need to trim the budget as the club is paying an extra $7 million a year in taxes to the incometent State Govt, thanks to Carr, Egan, Iemma etc, we had the largest football staff in the competition, grown under the admin of BS, but was funded directly from the Leagues Club. We also spent the most on junior development (thanks Moanly), so something had to be done as the leagues club would post another $2 million loss after funding the football operations this year - $ 3million last year..

All I can say is thanks to the useless Labour Govt and their greed for what is going on around the traps.

if there is a viable alternative coach available i would sack hagan now and give the new coach a full offseason to whip these slackers into shape and thats how long it will take

How have 5 people voted to keep him?

Remember this is a poll about what we THINK should happen...

I'll chip in $20 towards his payout if the club allows me to negotiate the sacking with Hagan.
Send me a PM Fitzy - we'll get Hagan paid out for less than his full contract, and offer a 'temp' position to a young coach getting his first gig in the top grade.
In total it'll be the same money spent on coaching next year - and if it's more, I'll fundraise the difference....

Hmmm, our chances of signing Daniel Anderson has taken a dive.

I voted to keep Hagan, but he needs to make some changes to our coaching and training staff.

If we can't afford to pay him out then get rid of the rest of the dead wood... Seems like there is plenty of dead wood floating around!

Michael has done a pretty good job, some tough periods this year

blooded and was persistant with some youngsters who will kill it next year eg keating, keating, paulo, burt, weller, tautai

a 5 year extension is not to bad an idea for mine imo

Short term, we need to atleast make some sutle changes like introducing a new defensive coach and more importanatly a fitness guru who can slay the players 24/7 into become the fitest outfit in the NRL.
