Wow ................. Let me get this straight. Now Barrett?

A coach needs how many assistants????

  • Ian Millward – Director of Rugby League Pathways
  • Mick Crawley - Chief Assistant Coach
  • Dean Young – Assistant Coach
  • Ben Hornby - Assistant Coach
  • Mathew Head – Assistant Coach / ISP Coach
  • Wayne Collins- Jersey Flegg Coach
  • Andrew Gray – Performance Director
  • Ciriaco Mescia – Strength & Conditioning Coach
  • Dan Lawson – Physiotherapist
  • Nathan Pickworth- Head of Athletic Performance
  • Trent Barrett - Advisor to the Advisor who advises the Lead Advisor.

Houston, we've gunna need a bigger box!

Like I am no Trent Barret defender at all, but he is a good pickup as an assistant, not head coach. He had huge raps as one before he went to Manly, and actually took them to the finals in 2017.

This unfortunately means he's the next head coach in waiting though

Manly is a soap opera - Barrett got knived by them and became a public fiasco. Not sure what he could do here as an Assistant though - unless plan is to let go some of the other assistant coaches?

Didn't someone on here report that the club has told Hornby & Young that they won't get the top job without some experience at other clubs or overseas ? Or is that wishful thinking ?

It is all back room dealing. Maybe the old boys will agree to the sacking of Mary provided he his replaced by another Illawarra champ.

Geezuz, wasn't Marketo available ?

Barrett would bring what to the table ? What achievements as a coach does he have ?
Hornby, Young, Mary and Barrett......f*ck me, we'll need to put a big f**ken tent right over Jubilee Oval and get in some trapeze artists and a lion tamer.

The only sense I could make of this would be that the bobsy twins are looking to gain nore exoerience elsewhere (overseas maybe). If it is their last season in asst coaching roles then having Barrett would make sense.
Same applies if its Head who's lookung to expand hus knowledge wuth Barrett taking over the CC next year.

However, if its all in, then it becomes plainly obvious that the "jobs for the boys" culture is alive and well at the Dragons.

Some blokes make good assistants.

Steve Price, Stephen Kearney, Peter Sharp.

Not head coaches but bring something of value and contribute to success.

Is Barrett? Not sure, but not a head coach so assistant he may excel at.

Yeah I get that he is a probably a capable assistant coach, just think we could have a situation where not much changes overall. it just means that either

i) he's the next head coach (as you say)
ii) he's an assistant and someone else is quietly moving on (or sideways) with no head coach change

Sorry to burst your bubble DP but the proof is there for all to see.
We don't hire experience.
We have McGregor!
Able to paint tall buildings without a ladder!
Can sugarsoap his way out of press conference!
.......... and mask his lack of knowledge with a seat on the board.

Yep, in the first instance, anyone considering a coaching career at the Dragons are requested to submit no CV's. However, the board will ask all candidates if if they have previously played for the Dragons, know of anyone who have played for the Dragons or are prepared to pretend to have played and or worked for the Dragons, even as a painting contractor.

Letters from 3 referees, ie: Dulux, Taudmans or Bristol Paints would be advantageous.

The $64 question here is....when does Mehry get his driving assistant as well?
Teats....teats everywhere.
