Summer 87, rummaging through the racks in HMV Manchester, store sound system plays an unfamiliar record that sounds familiar. All doubt dissipates when the vocal starts. New single by New Order.

Few years later, history seemed to be repeating. Heard the opening bars of another new New Order single. Enter Dave Gahan. Turned out to be "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode.

Unusual to see Tina Charles listed as the artist. When "I'm on Fire" hit the UK charts, Luan Peters was hired for TV miming duties. Among other roles, she played the Aussie guest in an episode of Fawlty Towers.

I thought the 5000 Volts records were produced by Biddu. Checked with Wiki and no mention thereof.

The other 5000 Volts hit "Doctor Kiss Kiss" is a guilty pleasure. Have it on a disco comp. Fairly sure the blonde lady who fronted up on TOTPs wasn't the singer.

Don't know if you're conversant with the back story.

I referenced "Lift Off With Ayshea" on the TV themes thread. This ran from 1969-74, one of a succession of Granada TV pop shows aimed at children. The best-remembered is probably Shang-a-Lang, a vehicle for the Bay City Rollers.

Arrows were another group of budding teen idols. Granada gave them their own series in 1976/77. Joan Jett was touring England with the Runaways and saw Arrows performing their song "I Love Rock n Roll" on the show. Serendipity paid off five years later with a monster hit.

Truly one of the best songs to come out of the 80s even Sophie Baxtor Does a great cover of the song.
