As myth is a term that gets bandied alot around here, I thought I would discuss the myth of all myths, Tim "supercoach" Sheens.
There was a thread here a few months ago that was almost 20 pages long, but I can't find it now.
Anyway, Tim Sheens is an absolute myth of a coach.
He has made the finals once in the past 12 seasons and three of his four premierships were with a team full of superstars, hardly a miraculous achievement.
His time at the Cowboys and seven out of his eight years with the Wests Tigers has shown what type of coach he is. A coach who persists with spastics like John Morris and Daniel Fitzhenry, a coach who picks players out of position, who loves buying mediocre second rowers, who has tried to manufacture a halfback for five years, and a coach who picks a winger on the bench every week and plays him for two minutes at the end of the match - the list goes on and on. Most notably he is extremely stuboorn and arrogant and refuses to admit he has made errors. Usually when he changes things it is due to force (e.g injuries) rather than him admitting his mistake.
A case in point is playing Farah at halfback this season. He did the same in 2007 and it was a complete failure - he even admitted this after it happened, and Farah himself said he didn't like it and never felt comfortable. Here we are again three years later and the stubborn old f**k rolls it out again.
This week, we have a winger playing fullback , a hooker playing halfback, and a winger/fullback and a halfback on the bench. Aren't we so blessed that the innovative supercoach can come up with these great selections.
Anyway, a "supercoach" would be able to take his team to the top 8 of a 16 team comp more than once in eight years.
I await the long line of excuses - he hasn't had the money, doesn't have the players, it's the players fault they drop the ball etc. etc. etc. and all the other bullsh*t that comes out when someone questions the great man.
