Of related interest, Australian rules being tagged as "aerial ping pong" originated in the early 1900s simply as "ping pong" - it wasn't though derived from "kicking the ball back and forth" but from rugby quips belittling Aust rules as a soft/girlish football game so tame that it was capable of being played indoors in your front lounge room by women and children i.e. games such as ping-pong / table tennis (which was extremely popular in the late 1890s and early 1900s).

Could be that union is not an Australian sport anymore it is run by overseas, and league is the main code in Australia

Since when was either Rugby an Australian sport, both great but not Australian.
League the main code in Australia?
As the dominant Rugby code then yes, but Australian Football would have a lot to say about League being the biggest overall.

I've heard the term "Mungo" many times in WA and am a little suprised that so many in Sydney have not. Yes it's a little insulting but I see no difference in it to Australian Football like's reffering to RL as Thugby League and RL types calling Australian Football AFL. I say toughen up and embrace it.
