Invitational side beats Papua New Guinea

TOWNSVILLE: Australian test rookie Matt Bowen scored three tries and an invitational crossed for 13 overall Saturday to beat Papua New Guinea 70-22 in a rugby league trial match.

Many of the Australian players, including Bowen, are preparing for the Tri-Nations tournament that also involves New Zealand and Britain. The first match of that series is Oct. 16 in Albany, New Zealand, before the tournament shifts to Britain later this month and into November. ap
