How can I argue with you legend when you have Lockyer at the top of your list. 8)

I'm going to have to though as how can you rate Fittler behind Kimmorely? Fittler on reputation alone beats out Kimmorely but on form over the last couple of years hes miles ahead. After the last couple of years Fittler would rate around 5 for me.

I haven't seen enough NRL this year to name a top twenty list, but I've seen nearly every match that Gordon Tallis has played this year and last. Based on that, he wouldn't even make the top fifty players in the NRL. Before his injury, he was top five, for sure. Not anymore, though.

I don't know about Gorden Tallis not scrapping into the top 50 best players within the last two seasons. That's a tough call. He didn't have a terrible season season last year at all. He didn't set the NRL on fire (as many fans expect him to week-after-week), but neither did 80-percent of the Broncos outfit. Agree?

That's one of the pitfalls of a player like Gorden Tallis. He sets such high standards for, both himself, his team's supporters and the general viewing public and media game-after-game & week-after-week, that a quite game here-and-there, is often incorrectly identified as an 'ordinary performance.' Would you agree? I think that more often than not clouds people's opinions of his performance.

Players like Johns, Barrett, Kimmorely and Lockyer also fall into the same catagory.

On the flip-side though, if you were to judge these players performances in comparison to, maybe, 85-percent of the total NRL players, then they're having a better than 'average' or 'ordinary' performance. But this rarely, and inacurately, is the case. Would you agree?

He would definitely have made my top 15 players of 2002 though.

This season (from very little I've seen; but moreso read match reports and reviews of) he seems to be out of touch a little. But he is still a class act.

No, Blade, I don't agree. I understand what you are saying, and I think that the criticism of Andrew Johns' form this year is a good example of what you are talking about. However, I don't think that Tallis performed poorly by his standards last year - I just think that he performed poorly. He was timid, he didn't run hard to the line, and constantly looked to offload before he reached the line. He played nothing like the Tallis of old. I've got no doubt that he was affected by his injury, but he was a shadow of his former self. I actually think that he has performed better this year than he did last year, but he still has a long way to go to be playing the way that he is capable of.

On the other hand, I think that plenty of Broncos performed well last year. While they fell away towards the end of the season, for the second year in a row, three quarters of the way through last season they were as good a chance as anybody of winning the title.

3. Freddy
4. Craig Wing
5. Kimmorley
6. Nathan Hindmarsh
7. Brent Sherwin
8. Schifcofske
9. Stacey Jones
10. Tallis
11. Barrett
12. Wesser
13. Gower
14. Minichello
15. PJ Marsh
16. Orford
17. Morley
17 and a half. Buderus
18. McLinden
19. Justin Hodges
20. Preston

Hmm... actually I probably don't agree with my own list, but that'll do. Lockyer deserves top spot because he's flawless every week, something Johns struggles to do.

Fair enough MM, though we don't see eye-to-eye on the statement "I don't think that Tallis performed poorly by his standards last year - I just think that he performed poorly. He was timid, he didn't run hard to the line, and constantly looked to offload before he reached the line. He played nothing like the Tallis of old" I do appreciate your comments.

I'll be first to admit, because of my location and limited access to the games week-in week-out, I don't get to see all of my team's (Broncos) performances, but I stand behind my comments earlier in this thread. From what I saw and read last season on Brisbane Broncos games, Gorden Tallis would easily find his way comfortably into my top 15-players, or so, of 2002. He may have not been his usual 'stand-out performer self', but neither was many other players in the Broncos outfit. Plenty of Broncos may have performed 'well' last year, but very few of them performed well in a 'consistent' manner.

I've yet to see one season review that says Gorden Tallis, in 2002, performed poorly...was timid...or anything to the similar tune. I'd love to see one if you, or anyone, can provide it. Until then, my opinions of G.T and 2002 stand.

I do agree with you though that his injury has played a significant role in his lack of performance, in comparison to the 'old' Gorden Tallis. The Nature of the Beast, I guess.

But again, I reiterate... ... he is still a class act.

PS: Good to see you here (LU) mate. Always have enjoyed reading your well put together thoughts.

PPS: Can we put a thumbs up (and down) emoticon on the list please. I would have given MM one above for finding these boards, but...

It suprises me that most people have Hindmarsh ahead of BK - is this picking on reputation alone? Kennedy carries the knights as much as Joey does and when fit I really think he is the games premier back-rower. Unlike Hindmarsh he's also demonstrated the ability to stand up in big games.

i don't know about unsung, he gets alot of praise from commentators/coaches/players and fans.

He is a dynamic play capable of turning a game on it's head

I'm not saying it in that... I know he gets good praise from them, but he should be club captain.. not Gidley, and everything that's hyped about Joey being the one man to hold the team stuff.... I don't believe BK is just as good at that as Joey is.

I think Hindmarsh single handedly kept the Eels in the premiership race last year. His running was awesome and I haven't seen another forward who could score a try from 60 metres out like Hindmarsh could.

If Parr had him for the first 13 games this year I'm sure they would be in the top eight at the moment and I'm thankful he is not playing against us this weekend.

I see Paul Green has made no ones list as yet???

I left Hindmarsh off my list, he has never stepped up in the games that really mattered, the bigs ones. At rep level and come finals time he chokes, it is very rare to see him step up in the finals, and he has choked in every rep game he has played.
