The Bathurst 1000 was 1000 times better before 1988. For too long it's all had a "sameness" to it. V8's version of a salary cap to "even the competition"... Changed forever when the Ford Sierra's came in and dominated to the point of basically ruling out anything that wasn't a V8. And Godzilla finished it off. Shame.

But in the good old days.... Ford vs Holden plus a wide variety of cars from all parts of the world that came to try and conquer the mountain... all were all unique and distinctive. The Jag XJS's, RX7s, The Nissan Bluebirds, Bimmers, Rovers...

And this was the best car ... even if it did retire on it's roof.. What a machine.

Great post Johnny. I agree with you 100%. Bathurst used to be great with all the different makes of cars. I used to watch it every year without fail, until the changed to the V8s.

Still remember that.
It lacked brakes and did a nice little half twist double pike with a forward roll somewhere up near The Cutting, l think.

Ahhhhh......... the memories!

Yep, they ruined it mate. I gave up years ago when I couldn’t tell the Cars apart anymore.

Hope they give McGregor a really good sending off in spite of his failures.
