no doubt junior had some weak squads mu, but even tommy was able to stay sober enough for long enough to jag a finals appearance and his squads were no better.

no one at wests was pushing for tommy to be given a job in 2000, but someone with an arguably worse record was a non negotiable condition for joining up.

the same misplaced loyalty has seen a promising ceo punted rather than have a coach with three straight failed seasons accept some accountability. for one side of the jv 2005 is a lifetime gold pass for the coach and no discussion will be entered into.

or maybe they're just so loyal to junior they're trying to make sure someone breaks his 7 year record.
with all due respect, thats the most delusional crap i've read in quite some time.

Can someone please explain why when a team isnt performing, the coach is immediatley blamed? Where was all this stuff about sacking him after we beat the Knights at Campbelltown........well?

Yes we have failed to make the 8 for the past few years, and have struggled lately, but realistically, who that is available would you chose that could honsetly do a better job at the moment? The only reason players like Benji, Robbie and Heighno are still here is because of the coach. If it were left to the last CEO we had, they would've been out of the joint. Stability is the basis for success, so a long term coaching staff (even if we fail for a while) is needed to set a basis for the future of the club, both in the players and the coaches.

And since when is it soooo simple to just go and 'buy a halfback'? In this day, when we don't have the money, we simply can't do it. Benji is a good halfback atm, without being spectacular. Give him time, and he will adapt (does anyone remember the abuse of Lockyer in his move from fullback to 5/8). We have the basis for success in the club, and a young team who can only improve. Keep the stability in the place, and it will come, or we could just sack the coaching staff, half the playing roster, and put ourselves back to the begining of the merger.

then why is longmuir gone and tom still has 18months to go?

wests supported longmuir (minus campbelltown) for making the perfectly reasonable move of trying to hold the coach accountable for results, but balmain wouldn't dream of doing anything to upset tom.

read between the lines mate. benny even equated getting rid of longmuir as cutting the rust out of a car. stupid dope cut out the last bit of steel and left the cancer behind. so long as balmain keeps giving the coach a free ride and sacking anyone who asks any uncomfortable questions you'll get to enjoy seeing morris, halatau, ryan, payne and their mates each and every week.

they'll probably extend his contract this year. can't have the disruption of uncertainty about the coach disrupting season 2010 could we?

As I stated earlier, if Longmuir had his way, we would no longer have Benji and Farah, and be without a coach at the moment.

So what is being said by some is that if the rookie CEO can't work with the coach and the star players (both on and off the field), then the rookie CEO should have his way, and leave the club with a spectacular future (yes, sarcasm).

Beat the Knights ? We were lucky to get the chocolates in that game. Every win we have we seem to be lucky. Anyway, you seem to be happy with the "efforts" this side has put in over the years. You're easily pleased. You obvioulsy can tolerate below par performances more than others. You probably don't care as much as the rest of the Tigers army who won't cop it. It's not about us making the 8. It's about Shames consistantly picking inept players out of position. To have the talent we have, we should be doing more but Shames is screwing this club up. I'd rather bring ourselves back to what it was in begining with the merger ...than tolerate this rubbish.

rubbish.

the rookie ceo is still the ceo, you know the chief executive officer, the big cheese, numero uno, the big kahuna, the boss. the buck stops with him.

is it sinking in? he doesn't have to 'work with' the coach. the coach is accountable to him and the board. you're under the same delusion that somehow the coach is wests tigers and no one can dare question him. longmuir understood better than anyone what continued failure meant to the financial position of the club. trying to put an end to it cost him his job.

when you are a coach who hasn't made the finals for three years you're usually under enormous pressure to hang onto your own job. only at wests tigers would a coach who should be feeling the heat be able to organise the sacking of his boss.

as for losing players that is the biggest laugh. both farah and marshall have contracts. yeah they could go all sbw on us, but it's not likely. players will always say they love the coach because you don't get far in the game bagging your coach in public, but name the last player who quit a team because they sacked a coach who has missed the finals for three years running. in fact name a single player who has ever quit because the coach got the axe.

yeah stability is good. nothing more stable than a coach who can't make the finals and a board that won't sack him. you don't need to wait to see what sort of a spectacular future surely awaits such a club, we're living it now. i think i'd rather we looked at what canterbury did when the stability in the place needed a shake up.

The Bulldogs have one lean year when they win the spoon and they hold a full scale cleanout and buy quality. They get a new coach BECAUSE THEY DON'T TOLERATE MEDIOCRITY.

The Roosters have one lean year under Anderson, they buy players, get a new coach and move forward. This year they will sack Fittler and get a new coach in BECAUSE THEY DON'T TOLERATE MEDIOCRITY.

Can you tell me when was the last time a coach failed to make the finals for four successive seasons yet still remained employed?

Stability is the basis for success, I agree. However, the stability of failure does not breed success.

This place needed a broom swept through it two years ago.

But he's won 4 competitions
The first 3 of which were won with some utter dross like Daley, Stuart, Clyde, Meninga, Belcher, Lazarus, Walters

He is batting at a tad over 1 in 3 which is very good in the modern era. Who else is available that could steer a side full of garbage like Farah, Marshall, Galloway, Lawrence, Collis, Ellis, Heighington, Tuiaki to a winning season
