Exactly. But how about this hypothetical:

Round 26 last year. If we had lost to the Titans (which was very possible for a variety of reasons including simple bad luck with injuries, refereeing or whatever) we would have finished last.

That would have been a poor indication of our quality throughout the season, since over the course of the year we were more consistently better than both the Titans and the Raiders.

We could point to our unusually high number of last minute losses as the reason we finished lower than we should have. Our for-and-against would prove that.

As it is we rightly finished ahead of both Canberra and Gold Coast, but it could have been very different with just a bit more bad luck.

OR - to use the exact same example but in a different way:

At round 24 last year I was convinced we weren't the worst team in the comp. Canberra and Gold Coast were both worse. However we were sitting last.
But judging off our F/A I was convinced we were better than both those teams.

Sure enough, we beat the Gold Coast to prove it.

Yeah i did and was waiting for someone to bring that up, noone did any good at the Saints until they got a genie in a bottle with Brees.

Ditka is one of the most respected and revered american football coaches in America.

Ditka is one of the most respected and revered american football coaches in America.

Ditka also had Walter Payton.

Sorry I do not buy his coaching at all, his style of coaching was all based it seemed on agression and intimidation. You cannot let his coaching at the Saints slide, his decisions were pathetic, like making Heath Schular teh starting QB after it was well established that he was an epic bust at Washington, like his infamous Ricky Williams trade which was down right embarrassing, and not only that, before they went for him, they went for Akili Smith who was again one of the biggest busts of all time.

He was an go for all or nothing type of coach, his style is no longer applicable in the NFL, sure he did great with the Bears, but he did also have some all time greats already in place to work with once he got there.

The best coach ever is Bill Belichiek imo.
