Not just from the government, but corporations (including universities) as well, and not just money, but resources:

Much of society does, but inside the bubble of a university they might not realise how much of a bubble they are in:

"Reported numbers are proportionally higher in young people"

It's more common that you might think. Currently trans people make up 1–2% of the U.S. population, but in the future this could be higher.
