Anyone who cares about it would know when it's on.
You don't care about it. Which is fine. It's not aimed at you.

I was replying to Twizzle claiming it's as big as the NRL grand final. I disagreed based on other even knowing it's on or hearing anything about it and I live in the heart of the LGBTQ+ community. I've seen nothing as far as posters, rainbows etc.
It used to get heaps of exposure.

If you know you know I guess - it goes for 16 days, so has been underway for a couple of weeks and is more than just the parade.

Oxford Street isn't really the heart of the scene, as it once was. Kylie's got a Sydney concert on Sat night anyway, so whoever they've booked for the Mardi Gras after party is a relative no name... until Kylie shows up to the Horden at midnight or 1am.

Happy Mardi Gras one and all :rainbow:

Yeah like I said. 99% of people wouldn't of heard it's on. It seems to have died off.
Growing up it was huge. People would talk about going etc.

There's a lot of people who wouldn't know that the Grand Final is on, because they too, don't care about it and don't watch news.

But that's back when "the gays" were considered something exotic - in a way purely because of all the discrimination that Mardi Gras started as a way of trying to address.

Now there's marriage equality, other equalities under the law, and almost everyone's got an LGBTQIA+ in the family and - apart from the few religious bigots among us - being "gay" is heaps more accepted as part of the normal spectrum of life.

Kids can even feel free to express who they are in high school these days - ends up I had about 10 out of 150 in my school year who were gay or lesbian, but it wasn't safe then to confide in anyone.

There's still a long way to go - but things have come a long way.
