The ref in the tonga/ireland game is a disgrace

I think a lot of people arent used to refs sticking up for their decisions, to me the look on Feleti when he got binned was gold, he was running his mouth at the ref all game. He isnt the captain nor is he an opposition player so he should know his place. When Esi got binned he was the scapegoat of Tonga's ill discipline, if anyone should be blamed for his 10 minute rest it should be the guys in the middle

It is not just me that thinks the ref was useless.

I never said it was.

But your guy was not only making poor decisions he was making biased decisions.

Firstly he is not "my guy" and secondly he wasnt being biased.

Why do you think this thread was written in the first place??

Because this is a discussion forum, where people are allowed opinions, you will find by reading the thread that other people agree with my view that he wasnt being biased, was being a bit of a tool, but in fairness to him wasnt really being given too many options because of the sub-standard disipline from the Tongans.

I want to make it clear that I am not a supporter of Tonga.
It was my observation of the game.

Australians are used to sub standard referees.

How was he biased? Like I say, what wrong calls did he make? Or are you suggesting we don't apply the rules of the game properly so both sides get an even penalty count? Ganson always calls players by their first name. In Super League he does it every time. I don't like Ganson, but it was a good display by him. Besides, why would he be biased towards Ireland? The English and Irish hate each other.

Man, I don't think Ganson can be accused of bias. On the contrary, he was probably conscious of such an allegation.

I did think he could have made the effort to learn the Tongan players' names before the match so he wasn't calling them 'mate' all the time, which is unprofessional and disrespectful for an int'l ref, especially when you know the oppositions' names.

He made a rod for his own back with a few iffy ruck penalties, the result being that he encouraged players to milk penalties as the match went on - something nthat didn't happen in the PNG England match as Hayne policed the ruck perfectly IMO.

Anyway, NZ should like Ganson on Saturday as he reffed the 24-0 Elland Road rout v Australia. He's reffing the PNG match.

Every game I have seen Tonga play has been like that. It's completely and utterly their own fault. Note that Ireland weren't on the receiving end of anything from Ganson.

The Tongan behaviour in the Federation Shield a couple of years back was disgraceful. Stamping on a man's head, six guys punding on one player, the captain coming off the bench to join in the fighting. It wasn't tough, it was moronic.

Ill disipline seems to be a hallmark of Tongan Rugby League, and thats a shame because they are an exiting team with ball in hand and fierce defenders, and they all play the game with a lot of passion.

Exactly what I was thinking about. They completely brought it on themselves, Ganson handled it very well.

Ganson's out of control and pathetic. He was again a loose cannon in the Kiwis-Kumuls match. At the start, Ropati and Vatuvei own one of the Kumuls, they get off him relatively quickly, and to congratulate them on moving so quickly he penalises them. Then on top of that he gives a 10m backchat penalty when guys are asking whats going on.

Ganson honest to god believes the game is all about him and he's f**king the games up. If he refereed down here in the NRL, I'd seriously have to consider wanting to watch god forbid yawnion, because as much as I don't understand their rules, he doesn't understand ours he just thinks he's a law unto himself.

How the hell do you British fans cope with him in the Super League??

Worst referee of all time.

He's sh*t but he's better than Klein IMO. Klein just ruins every game he refs by blowing his whistle when it's not necessary, and making really bad calls to boot.

Here's two bits of Ganson magic...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=P0Gf80CVX3M

That's just... can I use the che***** word here?

And then this one where he is the video referee... takes 4 minutes, to make an absolutely horrific decision...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bpjoRGt9r5M

Yet they deem this bloke fit to referee World Cup matches? He shouldn't even be refereeing Rugby Union under 4's.

That's amazing.

Kind of makes you feel guilty cursing the likes of Hayne, Jeffes and co over the years.

At the last two MM events he's hogged all of the headlines by being so incompetent. In 2007 he allowed Leeds to score from a blatant offside that every man and their dogs could see and refused to go to the VR. Then this year he reffed Hull v the Dobbins. He proceeded to come out with some of the worst reffing decisions I've ever had the misfortune to witness resulting in Hull losing. I hate the red and white scum and had to put up with $hit for weeks after because of this clown. :x Mind you I'm not that impressed by Archer after today. We deserved to lose but not by that scoreline.

Its about time the referees went back to calling players by their numbers. Calling their names just adds extra work to their job. They are there to referee not socialise.

the reffing of that match cant be discussed without asking why the heck Tongas try was disallowed by the video ref....

I'm still baffled.

A lot of the decisions were forced by Tongans lack of discipline, but a lot were appalling as well.
