To All,

Today it has been officially announced that the Newtown Jets side has avoided relagation and will remain in the A grade comp for season 06.

Sitting mid table on two wins from five games the Jets now face a tough fork in the road.

Do we lay down and spend the next 20 weeks gettng our arses handed to us on a platter or do we fre up and take it to the competition?

Personally I say we fire. Being in A grade will most certainly scare away a few blokes as the intencity of the matches becomes too much for their pea-heartedness.

IMO (as always) good riddance to bad rubbish.

The blokes who turned up to play on sunday gave it a massive crack and are to be commended.

Those who didn't should take some viagra eye drops and have a long hard look at themselves.

I see this team as Semi-Final material, so long as fingers are pulled out and the hard work is put in.

I will not, NOT, be part of a Wooden Spoon Newtown side.

It's still early mate. Knuckle down and dig in. Spirit at this stage may be the test of true character which will take the season either way.

Come On Jets !!!!!!!!!!!

good to hear that we are staying up - the team should hopefully relish the challenge rather than slack off like we did last year which probably lost us the comp - thought we were better than we were and didn't need to knuckle down

well done glad to hear the team is staying in a grade.
but i saw the draw for sunday and use are playing
south easter, so its a semi final re-match as we went
down to them last year.
i hope that you guys beat them the way we should of
last year.
so good luck and show them what the jets are made of.

As an innocent bystander, that is a parent of a team member, it's interesting, if not a little disturbing, to watch the evolution of this side over the past few years.

When I first started going to the games it was a case of betting on how many (or how few) of the team would front to play. The next season, more players, more discipline, and yahoodly, more wins. It was only a momentary lapse of reason (apologies P Floyd) that saw last year's finals campaign unravel and a good side hit the end of year showers way too early.

So to this year.

I haven't been to as many matches as I would like to, but what is clear, even to the untrained eye, the teams lacks. Lacks what? Leadership, discipline, desire, heart, dedication, yada yada yada...... now, not all in the side exhibit all these "qualities", but what is obvious is that if this team, and potentially it's a very good side, wants to improve on last year's efforts, then it needs to take some serious action.

It's often easy to take shots at those in authority, and that's not my goal here, but fair dinkum..... If you want a profession al outfit, then be professional. A wise man once said to me, "Plan your work, work to your plan, and your plan will work". Trite, you say? Glib, you say? Perhaps. But a side that has no solid structure, defined leadership, strong and cohesive coaching and management, and a squad 100% committed to playing and winning is buggered. Full stop. Hookers playing second row, centres playing second row, coaches playing at all, are not good indicators for a side trying to make the semis. I appreciate that if guys pike it on the day, then compromises have to made to playing positions. But one game I went to there were 7 guys on the bench, 3 never got a start. Are they still there? Not at the later games I have been to.

I don’t profess to be any sort of a guru, and in fact my playing days ended decades ago, although given the parlous state of the starting line-up, maybe I should dust off the boots and have a go. But I digress.

It’s sad to see a side that last year dripped with promise turn up this year and lack promise. The only constant in this side, apart from a few die hard members who give it their best week in week out, is the tireless work of their manager/trainer. If his heart could be cloned and inserted into a number of the boys, there would be a remarkable improvement.

Here’s to a better end to the season than the start. A grade is a tough ask, but fundamentally, the Jets lads are up to it. But as the doctor said to the patient after the prostate check, it’s time to pull the finger out.

Cheers lads, and good job brendo, nice to see such passion, even if it gets you in the sh*t sometime. :)
