Flanno has been pretty vocal in the media about Bird for someone not in his plans for NRL.
I’ll be staggered if he isn’t starting round 1.

He's also been vocal about Suli and Lomax. He's been encouraging about Bird in the media but I don't think he's been hyping him up at all. Do you think he'll start Bird ahead of Suli and Lomax in the centres for round 1 if they're both fit? Only way he's starting is if Sloan doesn't make FB I reckon, then he drops Lomax to FB and Bird steps up. But we shall see I guess. Either way can't wait to see how all the players have gone under the different training regime.

Also, not saying Bird isn't in his plans for NRL. I would expect most players in the 30 to get games this year at some point, it's important to have a strong squad, and he's part of that.

Yes I think he’ll start Bird in the centres for round one with everyone fit. How that looks for Suli and Lomax I don’t know, they’ll be somewhere, but that’s how much I think Flanno wants Bird playing centre.

His lateral movement struggles these days

He collapses in tackles very quickly to protect his legs

He doesn’t really have a penetrating off load and or the ability to draw and create two on one due to loosing his speed off the mark

Like I've said elsewhere if Bird is to get a starting position , never mind 3 or 4 it will be another Hook saga ...... Ex players that they coached when they were at their prime , and the coach still rates them now ....... I hope Flanno will use Bird only as a backup ............

yeah, I’m nervous about Bird in centres. Based on what we have seen in last couple of years it will be a big weakness (with his speed and lateral movement as others have indicated), however, I hope Flanno is not like hook, and he will only be playing Bird in centres if his form bounces back.

trying to be positive, Bird is a competitor, he has a lot of strengths, he was, and could be a weapon.

I'm hopeful that he will be impressed with Flanagan, and decide we're a good bet for his career. Bennett stepping aside at the Dolphins for Kristian Woolf to take over I think next year so would be a gamble for him.

It helps when your club owner and BOD members are wealthy, well connected in the media and corporate or business world and heavily vested in success. Make no mistake Roosters do not loose players they want to keep no matter what the media trots out in regards to salary cap squeeze or better offers elsewhere

I am not sure why we are talking about this. Lomax and Suli are our centres R1 barring injury.
Just because Bird does some training there for a rainy day. He also trains in other positions like edge backrow and 5/8th. He is utility value to Flanno since now we dont have anyone else.

His real salary is already exceptional it eclipses a certain Newcastle full back who is supposedly the highest paid player in the NRL, on the books admittedly.
