Flanno saying we may have to wait another 12 months before we land any big signings because there isn’t much on the market. Says the squad will be more competitive this year but combinations still need more work. We let in 3 early tries before clicking into gear in the scrimmage with Manly.
Didn't see any further details after clicking into gear comment in the press. Wonder if that meant we stopped leaking tries because defence tightened up, Manly replaced all their better players or we actually fought back with tries of our own.

Surely we are not going to over analyse a training scrimmage that we did not watch or know anything really about as another catalyst to be negative again about this year etc. Focus on real negatives

How do you come to that conclusion or where did you read that? if the media wont print it
Not a conclusion, an educated guess based on the fact we let in "three early tries" before "clicking into gear", with no comment on how many tries that entails.

If you read the description of the game Turbo went straight through the middle of our defence for one of his tries. Not a fantastic sign for the rest of the outing. Won't read too much into the game, but our middle defence getting torn apart and going three tries down before weathering the storm isn't ideal.

As I said..assumptions they can make...

Flanagan has also said that he thinks Tamale will play plenty of first grade this year
This is interesting. A lot of people on this site have been saying Lomax to wing, I couldn't really understand why that makes sense. However, if Tamale has really impressed at centre, maybe that gives Flanagan the opportunity to replace Feagai with Lomax. And all the vids I've seen of Tamale at centre are pretty good.

For the life of me I cant see Lomax on the wing and Bird in the centres, I was at a game last year and watched bird get burnt up bad, his lateral movement to the outside was pathetic. Anyway in Flanno I will trust bring on RD 1.
Yeah I agree he's not in the starting 13 unless there's injuries. I do think Flanagan likes him and will be encouraging him to be the best player he can be, I think he will be better than last year. But I think he will be a back-up centre. Unless he blows the lights out in pre-season, in which case he's earned the opportunity. But it's game by game.

Flanno definately has a plan for Bird.

Lost weight, put on muscle and fit.

Will get roasted for this, but maybe he could be our fullback.

Been in the game for a while and loves to chirp. Could organise our D line.

Just a random thought.

For me Bird would be on the bench at best ...... Just hope Flanno has his reasons and is not just playing him because he coached when he was at his best ..........

Well im not going to roast you LB, maybe not such a far fetched thought, but after seeing him in the game where he did play FB, i would be extremely nervous about ever seeing him there again, it was a train wreck

It's really hard to know what a fitter/lighter Bird looks like.. but it does sound like he's struggling to secure a position in the Top 13, cause there are better options.. other than via injury.

He did play fullback in the past, and im trying to remember why I didnt like it, I think it was a lack of pace, but I cant recall if it was a defensive or offiensive issue.. or both.. like Lomax is my fullback if I wanted a bigger body... and he can jump.. the problem is what do we do with Bird.. if he can bend over and play hooker for 20mins a game then we are laughing.. but im not positive he can.

Apparently Saints have signed Brandon Mansfield-Webster. He was in our Top 30 this year but was released before Xmas. Hard running back rower with an offload. Played some really good games in NSW cup last year and I think he’s the type of guy who could play NRL.
Few highlights of him from our Flegg side back in 21
