no one player is bigger than the club - over pay for one because he plays well and we return to top heavy unbalanced squads. Su'a has had an offer on the table higher than any other club is willing to pay for him. Him not signing is all on him not us.

Too many short term thinkers here unable to actually see a vision for the future ... like overpaying JDB for his sunset years f**k me. Allow a bloke with runs on the board to see through his vision.

In 3 years JDB wont be here, Flano will .. i am in with him not some "family first spouting merkin" whose issues stem wholly from not putting his family first years ago.

We need players who are 100% committed to us as a club who want to be with us through thick and thin, not wanting to take us for one last ride.
I agree in part but the pay discrepancy for Su'A is apparently over about 30-40k. That shouldn't bust your salary cap, especially with the space we've got available. Anyway, I do get holding off and sending a bit of a statement, I just hope it doesn't result in us losing him over 30k. If we're the highest offer, as has been suggested, I don't see him leaving

Correct me if I'm wrong but the club needs to spend their salary cap each year. It looks like next year the salary cap will be paying way overs on a lot rejects and plodders and very few quality first grade players.

I get that no one is bigger than the club but in 2024 and beyond you need to pay top $$ if you want quality players especially with a club like ours that is struggling recruiting any timeline players.

Could also frontload that extra amount while we have no actual players to pay.. I do see the danger in having 3 or 4 year heavy contracts.

I couldn’t have imagined at the start of the year that in 2025, of all the players in our squad we would be missing Lomax, Debelin and Sua. Good grief.

SUA should be offered captaincy.
The captain of the team should be able to communicate effectively to the players and the ref. He should also be knowledgeable with all the rules and know when to challenge the ref. He needs to get the team to play as one and play out the game plans according to Flanno's instructions and with a view to being disciplined in both the attack and defence strategies and be resilient at all times. Plus be interviewed at post games pressers.

Would Su'A be able to carry out these things? I am not too sure.

Couldn't be any worse than what we've got now

This I also like…

One of the best talent scouts in the game, the Dolphins’ Peter O’Sullivan, has a major decision to make.

The recruitment guru who unearthed the likes of Greg Inglis, Boyd Cordner, Roger Tuivasa-Scheck, Joey Manu, Latrell Mitchell and Isaiah Katoa is off contract with the Dolphins.

O’Sullivan has met with St George Illawarra chairman Andrew Lancaster and the Red V have tabled an offer to try and land the NRL talent scout.

The Dolphins are also at the negotiating table and working their way through whether O’Sullivan remains at the club or pursues another opportunity.

It would be a homecoming of sorts if O’Sullivan lands back at St George Illawarra with the recruitment guru starting his career with the St George Dragons many moons ago as an SG Ball coach.

I hope it's true but again why is it already public?
This would be a massive coup, better than any one/two players. Top priority for me.

For what it is worth, Brent Read said he doesn’t believe Su’a will leave the Dragons on the DT podcast today. Carayannis and Riccio seemed to be in agreement.
Read has also been the only journo that has reportedly said Talagi would not be at Parramatta in 2025.
And that was at least probably a month ago.
Did not give any indication as to where he might end up.

If the stories are true that our Recruitment Department doesn't have anyone in charge in that Shane Millard is unlikely to return from illness, then it would be absolutely ridiculous that the Club doesn't go all out to secure the services of someone like Peter O'Sullivan to head that Department. Make an offer that he cannot refuse.

Sounds like we still have to beat out the Dolphins for PoS, but his hard work is already done there, thats a cracking roster... really I think it come back to whether he and his family wants to live in humid as hell sh**ty old brisbane (where I live), or move back home..

Yah I think we have been dancing around him since all the Lomax stuff started.. but perhaps foolishly dunno released Lomax without anyone in return.

Problem is now other clubs are interested.. but I think he will be better paid here.. and guaranteed first grade.

Plus has the same manager as Flano.. really not sold on Blaize as a centre or 6 though
