Should Hunt and the Dragons smoke the peace pipe and enter contract negotiations (may the good lawd forbid ) then I wonder just how much he would be expecting ?

Would he be realistic enough to understand that he is no longer young and does not possess that ‘ never say die attitude ‘ that each team leader requires , also he is unable to inspire his teammates , to list a few of his deficiencies ?

Or would he accept his shortcomings and accept a far lesser amount than his has been paid in previous years ?

I have a horrible feeling that he still believes that he is one of the NRL’s most elite players and as such could still command a figure of say $800k - $850k .

Hopefully Flanagan and the board understands this and decides not to enter into any discussions whatsoever with him and send the bloke on his way to wherever - preferably interstate to see out the remainder of his playing career .

I thought Billy drove it around the back out of sight then dived in the pond feigning that he drove it in. Officials thought it wasn’t funny.

Spot on, my bad.

Locked in St George folklore is the story of halfback Billy Smith misbehaving on a visit to the Minchinbury vineyard of new sponsor Penfolds. Billy drove the team bus to a secluded area, jumped in a pond and reported to the Penfolds lunch celebrating the 1977 premiership dripping wet, telling shocked officials that he'd just drowned the bus.
While Billy was eventually sacked as the club's cellarman after the events of that day by managers Laurie Doust and Danny Robinson, it's not well known that he arrived at training intoxicated halfway through the previous season and his contract was terminated

Don’t forget the player manager who is behind the master Bater head source of comments since the review
Fact he is pushing Dragons into a corner.. but this time asking for a release in a different way making us look snd Hunt like the bad people.
Lets hope flanno fax the manager with the words they want with a time clause find a deal by mid December or his contract stands. Don't want to pay him just so he can have a family holiday. If you want out Benny find a deal all us fans want a chrissy present of you gone
Should get a contract so easy because your so good just ask yourself and media mates
Put the ball in their court flanno

I grew up in Blakehurst & when I hit 18, my mates and I hung out in the old Seabreeze pub. The Dragons players use to drink there after training at Todd Park, usually 2 nights a week.
I saw first hand some of the pranks that Billy Smith would play on team mates. He was the life of the party & a shit stirrer, but so great for team spirit and harmony.
Those boys could drink, but never disrespectful to the customers & staff.
Ahh the good old days

I’m actually enjoying this.

Flanno is all over him. It’s f**king great.

We’ll be alright so long as this keeps up. I believe Flanno’s example will start to be followed by other clubs, who are pathetically inept and weak, as we have been.

Love it. Love that Flanno is a f**king hard arse. And a very shrewd one at that.

It’s refreshing.
Hard arse? or ass
Hmm
Hunt should give Flano 75% of his salary for keeping him here and now no one wants him.

If Billy was doing those things in his prime, would the club have gotten rid of him?

The stuff he got up to seems tame compared to the drug taking and assault charges of some players these days and clubs and the game not coming down hard on them, especially if they are a good player.

...and now no one wants him.
What is going on? It is all very puzzling.

From the outside, this looks like some kind of hardball negotiation but if that is true, what outcome does Flanno want? Or has Flanno played himself here and is just being stubborn? That would be immature.

Let's consider the situation based on the little that we know.

1. Hunt has repeatedly asked to be released, so we are not out of pocket if we release him prior to Nov 1. That would give us his slot plus a lot of cap $. Good outcome in my opinion.

2. But if Hunt stays after Nov. 1, he gets 1/4 (?) of his salary. Not a small amount of $ and we get nothing for it if he still leaves.

3. Does Flanno in fact wants to keep Hunt for next year? Why? How will Hunt play? He might play well to get another contract elsewhere, but we can't be sure of that. Seems unnecessary and risky.

4. On Hunt's side, I would bet good $ that Hunt already has an offer he likes. This would explain why he is squirming and spitting like he is. And, the NRL being a small world, perhaps Flanno already knows this and feels he can use it as leverage.

5. I don't believe that player swaps are on the cards. Clubs can't just make players go to other clubs. Although agents might arrange it.

6. So why won't Flanno let him go? He is after some kind of win, I suppose, but what could it be?
