On behalf of the forum management committee I justed wanted to let you know your subscription to this forum entitles you to a free kevlar flak jacket, with multiple storage pockets for tightly held opinions, wierd recruitment rumours, and the ever popular "why the hell would you play him in that position" conjecture. Feel free to open said pockets freely and often - but please ensure the jacket is correctly secured before doing so. It is also STRONGLY suggested you lodge your self-esteem with the concierge on the way in and collect on the way out - the management committee does not take responsibility for any damage, harm, injury done to said self-esteem during your stay. Enjoy :)
Thanks for the warning mate

Had to laugh at this. Well done

Then I went back to look at the Sharks forum. It’s the West Bank in there over Flanno lol

Well Ok. Now I will admit it. It was close to my prediction a month or so ago but it must of been agreed with the media to release Widdop going (I said it will be XMAS day to curb the social media backlash). I was wrong 1 day early. Typical St George or management fashion.
This whole Widdop cloak and dagger saga has been a farce as was the original press conference. Well done St George Illawarra. I dont blame Widdop one bit but I am so disappointed that he wants to have a 2 year break, then may want to come back to the club.
Why not let him announce that he was going to go at the end of 2019 when it first came out, or even if he wanted to go straight away then let him go then without all the BS from reporters and him in front of a camera about some stage in the future putting him on the spot, Will you see out your contract?., making it out to be all an innocent mistake and made up.
Well best of luck Gareth playing for Chinless but with big money I suppose you would play under water if you had to. I have enjoyed you being at and sad that you are leaving our club.
May you have a big 2019 and be a major part of going as high as we can go this year with those shackles held by our coaching staff.

Not knowing the exact circumstances it seems to be a pretty good outcome for everyone. It was claimed the club and Widdop were in communication for a while. Only they know the whole story. Therefore it seems a plan was put in place for a best possible and smooth transition. We will have an awesome spine for 2019 plus the benefit of Norman having one season with the team post Widdop. Widdop could have done a SBW, Tallis and others and simply walked out/not played with no warning but didn't. I too would have preferred him finish his contract but it wasn't to be. I can live with the outcome and pretty excited for 2019.

Superstar Gareth Widdop is set to deliver the Dragons a crushing Christmas blow by signing a two-year deal with English club Warrington.

Widdop is on a long-term deal with the Dragons and will play for the club next season before moving to Wolves in 2020 on a rich contract.

The only good news for the Dragons is that Widdop, who turns 30 next March, may return to the NRL and the Big Red V after that.

Born in England but largely raised in Australia, Widdop has had a glittering career in the NRL but wants to make his mark on the English game before retiring.

He has family in the UK and wants to play in front of them while he is still at the peak of his game.

Widdop’s partnership with fellow Aussie Blake Austin will give Warrington one of the best halfback combinations in Super League.

His departure will leave a massive hole in the Dragons’ ranks but is one of the major reasons the club splurged out on Eels playmaker Corey Norman last week.

Delivering a "crushing blow"......really!!

Who writes this crap.

Talk about being late to the party, its not as though no-one knew about it.

I guess RL news scoops are few and far between this time of year.
Yes its the circus around it thats laughable, why did not the club or Widdop himself just say he is planning to go at the end of 2019 without the innocent dont know where this story is coming from routine, like nothing had changed and why does it have to be announced by media hacks.
I am OK with deal to good to refuse...why wouldnt you.
Most supporters are no fools and can see through the spin but they keep on trying it to silence the masses but inevitably just makes them look stupid and deceitful in the eyes of many.

Enough of this whingeing from me.... so who should now be our captain going forward!
For me Tariq Sims as would be the most vocal and here longer term. Frizz is a whisperer. McInnes...na. Graham retiring. Hunt to many mental demons if things go bad. JDB even if found innocent has done his dash.

Captain is an interesting thought.

Whilst Graham seems an obvious choice, I feel we need a long term leader, not someone for just a year.

My guess that this will come from the leadership group. Friz and McInnes are probably the leading contenders.

Frizell is a must for capt and possibly Tariq next option. They are the heart and sole of the red V at the moment. I would have said Jack De Belin but he has clearly made bad decisions that have ruined his brand.

Frizzell definately wants captaincy now. I remember hearing him say it in an interview on Fox last year. May not have wanted to a few years ago but definitely now.

I'm OK with Widdop leaving except that it is so soon after a new contract.
When your top earners sign a big contract, the high cost eases over the years through natural inflation and cap increases.
This would be part of the reasoning in the Dragons agreeing on a figure.......it may be expensive now but in 4 or 5 years it will be much better value.
Widdop has the benefit of the first year or two but then signs elsewhere when the value to the Dragons improves.
