What someone outside the club and not an ex-player? He would be great for the club and will definitely fix things. Hopefully push for a sporting excellence facilities which he did at the Panthers to make them more professional.

He was a huge fan of the Saints in his junior days so hopefully he will have that desire to return the club to their glory days and at least get come credibility back and not be the laughing stock of the NRL.

I bet he will back Mary and keep him there because like all the ex-players say (he is a good bloke). Mary would have been part of Gould's Origin teams no doubt.

Anyone good at joining dots?
Coyne seen as the great white hope does review Mc Gregor survives
Doust goes Johnstone reemployed and seen as great white hope Mc Gregor extended
BOD sees resentment from fan base and decides on review
Johnstone & Mc Gregor put in charge of arrangements for review
Gould touted as “messiah” and potential candidate for review
Gould is able to walk next door to Coyne’s house and ask for any notes or clues as to the ins & outs of previous review

If mcgregor survives the review then it must result in Gould head coach and McGregor as his assistant coach.

Perhaps not by title, but that's the only way we could possibly see any improvement withMcGregor still around...

Firstly , unbeknown to myself another of our members had actually posted this before myself - 2018 on the rumors thread and perhaps this is where this should be .

However as said by some of you gentlemen - where is the money coming from ? My only conclusion is that our Uncle Bruce has finally realized just how far down in the dung heap his beloved Dragons truly are and has decided to open up his wallet to get the J.V. ou of the proverbial .

Too many reports of late that the Dragons are almost penniless and yet they can afford to have the likes of Mr. Gould come in and flush out the dirt that has been clogging the pipes for gawds knows how long ? Once again - where is the money?

Undoubtedly he is the man to do a job here at St.George Illawarra and let’s face facts they , the owners can no longer sit idly by and watch this club go any further down the sewer - Gould is also most adept at the hiring and FIRING of coaches , he is the man to do the job . The Dragons need this chap badly , warts and all , if he can clean the place up then he would deserve all the kudos that come his way .

Note ! The Mole had better be right about this !

The Moles reporting is very 2 bob each way
Firstly, talks with Gould to head up the " end-of-season review"
Secondly, possibility of him taking on a more permanent role in 2020 as assumed would be director of football.

It should be noted that Gould still has to the end of this month to end his contract with penrith. Same situation as Barrett.
But something does not make sense to me. And this involves $$$. As other people have said we cannot afford to pay out McGregor how come we afford to hire Gould? And this on top of McGregors supposed $1.2m.

There is more to come on this rumour and if so it will be interesting to examine closely the finite details of how this would work.
If you read the article carefully, I think they are talking about retaining McGregor under Gould's watchful eye.
Paying Gould a whole lot of money and keeping McGregor is a waste of time and money.

If McGregor's exit is not part of this initiative, then Gould will not make a zac of difference.

Sorry Samy can't agree with you on this one.
The devil is in the detail.
"Gould in talks with Johnstone & Mc Gregor" is a huge warning bell to me.
If Mc Gregor was going to be a casualty he would not be involved in any talks and would be kept completely on the outer.
IMO this is window dressing by the club and Mc Gregor would see out his 2 years.
If Gould is coming he should only come as coach & recruitment manager and the notion that he should be the GM of the football department is only providing lip service by the club to the fans base and nothing much would alter under that arrangement.
McGregor staying here, not going anywhere

I think the only way this would work is if Gould was on performance-based payments only.
I don't see him giving up his media commitments.

Noted, but as Overseas Dragon has pointed out what are we going to pay Gould? If we can afford to find money to pay Gould, can we not afford to pay out McGregor?
Less than paying out McGregor (one lump sum) and the cost of another coach more than Mary is on + more experienced assistants who would demand more than our current mob..
Gould would not demand as much as another top line coach. So say next year if Mary stays they spend a combined $1 mill, where as pay Mary out, sign a coach could cost $2 mill next year. It is all about budgets as well.

Back..back... to the forest you go, stop poking you head out, you know it is not harmonious to your soul.
Breathe that fresh air, listen to those birds sing, embrace the sunshine
We will call for guidance from our higher power when we have to tell you someone is coming and Mary is going.

For this rumoured appointment of Phil Gould,he must be given full power to wield the axe and change our clubs recruitment, Pathways and coaching system.
The club would be foolish to hang onto peanut Paul & Millward Mess, there can only be one head chief and it should be Gus calling the shots IMO.
He has enough contacts and a huge profile to get us the right coach. McAnchor is not that man!
You'd think so but that's not what they have in mind.
