In think most on here would agree with you myself included but you cant blame the player from getting the best deal he can. It all starts and finishes with the Board in approving whatever deal we offer Hunt and their desire to fully support the Pathways program. Again the media is forgetting that we have Hunt next season so when does the wear & tear start to take effect on his body , which it surely will ? Any agreement with Hunt has to assume playing any position , just like it is with 99% of all other contracts. If he doesn't like it hold him to 2023 to mentor Bud and let him make other plans from then on.
Denis, I agree with you too, and I wouldn't begrudge any player to get as much as possible in the twilight of their careers, but what really pissed me off was what he publically stated: “I’m trying to extend my career, not shorten it up, so I don’t want to be getting in the middle too much”.

This straight away tells me he is just in it for himself and zero care factor for the club, juniors, and supporters.

Cheese - or block of cheddar , or whatever the damn , is one player that will need to be pulled quickly into line by the powers to be at the chooks .

I cannot see him spending too much time on the sideline for any illegal play as the club has plenty of spare cheque books lying around the place for the judiciary should they come calling .

However Sydney’s night life may be most tempting to him and trouble could possibly follow him like a Bogon moth to a bright light .

Yes but, maybe or maybe not , he may give the club some leverage and accept a lower offer from us but we don’t know this yet. If reports he has included Hook as coach as a clause then it really is getting silly. And for the record I don’t consider calling him selfish KBW stuff.

the bottom line is that we cannot have our equal best junior (along with Junior and Codes) from OUR club who BLEEDS red and white, forced to leave due to an ageing outsider not from here (Hunt) in all respect to him, GREAT as he is for us and has been for us, we CANNOT let Bud go specially in such a crucial position as half for us! weve had so little halves, genuine halves in 30 years we cant let Bud go then star for another club for 15 years smashing us each time we play with some other, crappy half weve picked up whos hearts not in it as he dont bleed red n white, for years bumbling round as we have for decades....even our last premiership winning half was a fullback! the other thing we CANNOT let happen is 2 OUTSIDERS force the poor local genius junior out... Hunt n Hook, NO! WE NEED OUR JUNIORS WITH THE PASSION FOR THE JERSEY....then we might be the next Penrith. Hunt MUST do the right thing as a man of honour now and let Bud take over, its the right thing to do for the club, for our future, we can totally REBUILD AND RE RISE only with juniors...and the best of the best are Bud and Junior....they both must be given a chance to keep that magic combo they have!
Agree but we also cannot afford what most scribes are predicting will be around $850Kpa for 2 years to keep Hunt. $700-750K has already been described as a "low ball" offer and rejected (wonder who came up with the description of "low ball- Hunt's management would be my guess). We need that money to shore up the forwards and speed on the wing. Leniu, Martin and Staines would be perfect.
Offering big money to ageing players rarely works. Buddy Franklin is the most obvious example. Put bums on seats- yes- but no flag to the Swans- as yet anyway.

Gus is too smart will want us to sign Hunt, knowing that Sullivan may be available, don't 'believe what he says he has ulterior motives that would benefit the Dogs, make a noise about Dragons need to sign Hunt then swoop on Sullivan who potentially could be a 10 year 1st grade halfback..
100% CORRECT
This has been his plan all along
Surely EVERYONE including our management can SEE this.
If he is talking up Hunt then he can sign him for his DOGS.
They want a halfback they can have Hunt.
Our management should ring Phil direct and offer Ben Hunt
Love to hear Phil's response.

Panthers also looking to off load Spencer Leniu and Charlie Stains to hold onto Martin
Leniu in particular well worth thought .Tough and uncompromising
Martin however would be a prime signing
these will pop up at the dogs and stay under cap :)
Pangi Jnr being shopped around ?
No way , absolute liability where ever he goes

If Martin from Penrith is being shopped around, I wouldn't be throwing any silly money at him. While a solid player, he is part of a well oiled machine and is hardly their gun who bends the line, makes breaks or pops passes. I had gone onto the Penrith forum and even they think he is a bit if a plodder, although they have different quality cattle to us to compare against.

Martin is good player but doesn’t excite me too much. Leniu on the other hand, young, hungry and goes a million miles an hour. Just what we need in our pack.

He wants an opportunity so throw one his way. Maybe Su’a can get in his ear as they both represent Samoa. 3 year contract at 400 to 450 a season. Add plenty of starch to our pack along with Molo, Lawrie, JDB, Su’a.

I know that this is probably me clutching at straws and might mean nothing at all but the club’s social pages have featured Bud quite a bit lately and he has also been sharing it to his Instagram. I hope this is an indication that the club has secured his long-term future and ended any thoughts over him wanting a release.
Longer than end of 2025 that he is already signed for?

If Hunt was released for 2023, then we could have the cap to build a great forward pack. Replace Hunt with Kyle Flannagan (hooker) and play Sullivan at halfback.

Most importantly, hire Flannagan as our head coach right now. He will replace the dead wood with good players and have the squad fit and ready to go for next season.

Yep I agree possum.
Time to act. I have always liked Hunt as a player, but he needs talent around him. Talent we have not got. If Hunt leaves we could then start to require quality forwards.eg Martin Creighton are examples of what we need, also descent front rowers.

You're entitled to your opinion but the Hunt hate is getting way over the top. He has to look out for his family. Everyone here would do the same if in his shoes. You have the board and co upstairs to hate way more than Hunt. If they had a clue, this wouldn't be playing out this way. I'd also say that guys like Thurston and Cronk would have struggled under Mary, and things haven't been much better under Hook.
Didn't you read my reply to denis preston Dopey? Just a couple of posts back in this same thread for FFS?????

If you could even give a shit about this club and other forum members' "entitled opinions" before firing an overloaded diohreah post as per above then STFUP with all due respect.

FYI I will copy and paste it for you once again because you seem very "special" and can't seem to be bothered to read and respect other members' opinions beyond being bothered with your blind post regarding Hooks failures and Cheif pocket holder, (C)Hunt holding the club players and all of us supporters to ransom for the next 3 years at once again an inflated price tag, with SFA results over the last 5years at a massive price tag with zilch results on return on investment.

FMD we not only have a brain-dead BOD, brain-dead coaching staff, brain-dead aging #7 trying to run the club with "3rd-grade professional players" selected by brain dead coach and brain dead captain each week, .....now I have to deal with a brain-dead forumite like you that thinks I'm a (C) Hunt basher.

Can someone please do a "who should be our #9 and #7 for the 2023 season and beyond" poll thread?

Here is my quoted response to denis preston and mad dragon who accused me of being a BKW aka (C) Hunt basher.

OK , No surprise my post has been removed to denis preston from the powers to be on this forum but
here is a bit of my reply.

I went on to say that I do not begrudge any player for trying to get the best deal in the best interest of himself and his family in the twilight of their career. However, (C) Hunts public statement of wanting to prolong his career by not wanting to play in the middle was disrespectful to our club, juniors, and fans which tells me he is not in it for the Red V but just for himself and the current $$$ and future $$$ after he ass rapes us and moves on to another decent paycheck at the detriment of our club, juniors, and dwindling fan base.

Sorry, but playing for the Red V is a remnant of the past that is nice to hold on to but not relevant anymore. This is 2022, not 1992 and Dean Young's circa 2010 are a once in a decade breed. Player passion for the Red V might come back if the club starts winning, but that won't stop a key cog of the side who was a junior from walking away for a 15-20% pay rise.

Other parts of your post are not worth responding to.
