For mine, it's no issue at all that we're not in for Stephen Crichton. The club has been clear in its intent to back its juniors, so Sloan and Ramsey (if he can hopefully make it back) are the obvious fullback choices. We don't need to fork out tons of cash on Crichton who is an unknown entity himself as a fullback. I do think we need to invest from the outside in our forward pack. Yes, we have some juniors coming through but their development especially in the forwards is going to take some time. We need to couple junior development with some quality outside signings, which will in turn also assist junior development. I don't think players like Lawrie who is only just finding his feet himself need the responsibility of being the main example for our younger forwards. Of course, there is Woods, but he can't do it on his own and is he really the best example to follow anyway?

I believe the club need to start making some inquiries given the market is thin at the moment. I would still be pushing hard for Leniu, Kamakamica is off contract as well. The Tigers have assembled a decent forward pack, but that also costs money and the balance of their team is out of whack. They will be looking for a quality back or two to fill the holes in their squad. Maybe they have to offload some cattle? Shawn Blore can't sit on the bench forever, maybe Utoikamanu has to be let go too? Maybe not also, but make some inquiries. The dogs will certainly have to offload some players. Luke Thompson perhaps? Cartwright from the Eels as a stop-gap? Is Haraweara-Naera happy to sit on the bench? Maybe big Haumole from Manly would like some more cash given his form and Manly can't afford it?

Another consideration for the immediate future: What about a loan move for Blore or Ben Trbjoevic if their clubs aren't willing to let them leave?

The possibilities are endless and there's heaps of questions there to be answered. The only way to find out is to inquire, and maybe we have, but somehow I don't think so.

I think you'll find our main target marquee player wont be in 23 but 24 .
..Thinking they will go all out for Nanai to come along for Deanos home coming next year , along with some Cowboy Colts
Our most promising juniors will get a golden opportunity this Season to display their talents with a view to the future , as 23 appears to be another transitional season........

Nanai signed a long term deal with the cows, did he not?

I agree players won't be coming in 2023 and rather 24 or even 25. I highly doubt we'll get Nanai because he won't leave north queensland, and the Dragons won't want to screw over their salary cap right after getting it back in order.

My suggestions are mainly for 2024 or 2025, with a few for 2023 such as the loan moves. We desperately need forwards though.

When it comes to picking up quality players we’ve missed the boat for 2023 season and the one for 2024 is already sailing away. our recruitment sucks. Off cuts from the bottom teams is nothing worth celebrating.
I love to see Thompson from the Dogs added to our squad of forwards. It should have always been the Dragons club he moved to from Super League.

Reported Sullivan out for 6 weeks with hamstring… won’t be available to start season
Are we just the unluckiest club which has been hexed for some reason? If Sullivan is out with a hamstring problem we will need to play either Mbye or Bird in the 5/8th position ugh! If Sullivan has a hamstring problem then all I can see is that he will be hampered with injuries every year.

Before the first ball is kicked in 2023 for us in Round 2, we are encountering so many set backs.

Paying for our 11 in a row big time now!

I believe the St George Illawarra Dragons have only 1 title to their name. Correct me if I am wrong though.
No doubt you blokes are on top of the world at the moment Blacky and rightfully so - 2 consecutive premierships , wow !

But I wonder how you would feel if it was 11 consecutive trophies ?

But enjoy it while you can , as the ex Panther’s best ever administrator - Gus ( the human football ) Gould is slowly , but surely , tearing your club to pieces . 😉
