George Burgess pushing for NRL return after successful hip surgery
By Sacha Mirzabegian

Former Souths star George Burgess is pushing for a return to the NRL at a non-Sydney based club.

The premiership-winning prop is feeling healthy and confident of returning to the rigours of playing NRL after successful hip surgery, according to Nine's Danny Weidler.

A hip injury ended the 29-year-old's stint with English club Wigan in 2020, after just eight games.

Burgess' preference is to live outside of Sydney and his people have already held talks with the Dragons, Weidler reports.

"George Burgess is looking at an NRL comeback - not after big dollars," Weidler tweeted.

"He feels incredible after hip surgery. Looking at living outside of Sydney. Hearing of an informal discussion with the Dragons."

St George Illawarra have been stung by injury and suspension leading to six losses in the last seven weeks after flying out of the blocks in the opening month.

Burgess last featured in the NRL in 2019 and played eight seasons with the Rabbitohs alongside brothers Sam and Tom, winning the 2014 premiership.

Earlier this year the forward revealed he's battled the hip problem for a decade.

"I had it my whole time at Souths, obviously it was managed a few different ways," he said.

"Over the years it got worse gradually. I thought going to Wigan I could get it right but it's not been great."

P.S This should make a bunch of people on here happy ...LOL

And Dragons have held informal talks
Same article
I am calm but Why did you tell everyone to calm down when no one has rant and raved yet
Simply because some posters are talking / whinging about all the negatives associated with such a signing.

The worst of the Burgess bros, the biggest bumble fingered Burgess, bla bla bla.

The negativity level just continues on and on and whats more we have barely talked to the guy who says he wants to "live" out of Sydney.

Well TBH I wouldn't exactly consider the Gong out of Sydney (if that's what I really wanted) and the fact remains if he did come to us he would be in Sydney almost every week now if he signed with Storm, Warriors, Bronco's, Cowboys, Raiders etc etc then that would be certainly out of Sydney.

I’m hearing that the Dragons are not full keen on promoting from within to replace Dufty in 2022

I have heard that some members of the football department have stated that Tyrell Sloan and Cody Ramsey are still not ready

2 big rumours I have heard are

The Dragons are keen on bringing in Anthony Milford to play fullback

and that Shaun Johnson has been targeted to replace Corey Norman who will not be offered a new contract

Everyone just relax, I trust hook and what he’s doing. Everyone hated the signing of mccullough and letting McInnes go and look how that all turned out… just let him get the team he wants and judge him based off performance not potential performance

AM started with a bang but has looked gassed the last 6 matches

I think 80minutes has passed him by

Needs a break in matches

I think McCullough is the reason we're playing so flat, with no depth in attack which worked for him at the Broncos years ago when " flat attack " was all the rage. It's not working for us now and Hook and McCullough seem unwilling to adjust to the new game. It has cost us games and will continue to.
I applaud his 50 tackles a game but in my opinion we should be looking for a replacement / back up for him asap not a George Burgess or Milford. Hooker is a real priority for us I would have thought.

Sideways move of ever there was one. SJ over Norman sure but I would have Dufty any day of the week over Milf.

Sloan is a couple of years away, I reckon.

The Milford rumour just won't die. Signing him would be peculiar to say the least. Unless they're looking at him as #14? That was what the Mbye rumour stated.

I think it was 17 or 18 when Melbourne made a huge offer for Milford. He would've been Melbourne's first big name signing in a long, long time. Not sure where it's gone wrong for him. Bronco's forwards seem to escape the heat a lot though, all their problems seemed to always be pinned on their halves.

Now let me see. Milford has all the skills that Dufty doesn't, is that right?

Johnson for Norman I'd give a tick of approval, but can Milford defend and does he have speed to burn?

If this rumour has legs in relation to Milford, it is madness. If the Milford for Dufty deal is done, why don't we just apply to relocate and become the 2nd Brisbane team?
