IMO, it would flop badly. Yawnion is a religion over there and their one & only true national sport ( cricket struggles to get the talent as a lot of juniors make the decision at 15 to go into the union development program ) By all means make the Warriors more relevant in NZ but it would be throwing money that the game doesn't have to throw at another NZ side. Better spent on a new side from a heartland of the game and that's why the 2nd Brissie side makes most sense.
“Cricket struggles to get talent”
Umm, their national team is ranked number 1 in the world for test match and ODI currently……

I keep saying where are the players going to come from of 1st grade standard when we don’t have enough for 16 teams unless someone or 2 teams fold or 1 relocates
Until reserve grade is looked after and become stronger in conjunction with NRL then will never have enough for expansion of team numbers
A 14 team comp will be close to the mark options outside NRL available to those who don’t cut it rather than reggies here

Come on , really ? Shows how much better they would be if they didn't lose a lot of their juniors to union. Mind you it happens here , particularly to the AFL.

It’s hard for me to think a Brisbane team will be successful either though with no Qld team in the 8. Look at the origin team too. If Brisbane were a top team the rivalry would make sense. My opinion actually is that I would prefer not to expand at all. If it were my choice I’d get rid of a couple of teams, beginning with the Sharks.

For me the most logical step in expansion would be a second NZ team. The Warriors would have to improve but imagine if they could have a Wellington or even South Island team. It’s obviously years off but that rivalry could be great and eat away at Rugby a bit in the process .

Agree FCD , it makes sense to me for the new team to be from N.Z. regardless if the country is dominated by rugby union , there would still be support for a 2nd league club .
Not only fan support , but also the finances would be available thus alleviating the initial outlay by the NRL .

Tigers and Bulldogs apparently making a play for mid season switch for TPJ, 2.5 year deals. Time to decide are we in for him also or not...
Now this is all happening I hope not
translated...
His manager is now playing games and clubs up against each other and clearly now you have to offer him more than his current Broncos deal to lure him which will be over the top risk money

If the Tigers are willing to pay him $50,000 a game for this year for the last 5 games of the year that he’s available we’ll they can have him as they won’t be playing finals

The true reason that this Queensland pineapple - Buuuce Hatcher is after a Sydney team is that he wishes to ensure that Brisbane Broncos will be safe from any real competition that would threaten their stranglehold on the game up their . This includes the recruitment of the best players available, they want the pick of the crop . What’s left over can go to the new team .

As far as Kent is concerned I have found him to be an overbearing individual , whose opinion is always the correct one , at least as far as he is concerned .

Rothfield talks common sense and at heart his interests are the survival of the Sydney teams from yesteryear regardless of whom they are .

What worries me is that this V’landys has no base roots in the game itself , his main desire is to extend the competition to wherever his fancy may take him , which in the long run will spell trouble .

We have had new teams in W.A. and also S.A. - where are they now ?
Your so right Gareth67 in what you say, in WA and south aussie it was never going to work because of the the AFL and they will never be supported to great lengths of the purple cheats as News Limited does in vico.
Then QLD, look at the Seagulls they were at one time the largest Leagues Club, they were massive it fell apart. The Crushers they fell apart, no money.

The Broncos they have a massive area to pick from and chose players. They still f**k it up, look at Reece Walsh. What ever team goes up to be direct competition to the Broncos will fail, ask Lachlan Murdoch, News very powerful for the right product they will do everything to keep it alive, the purple cheats are the prime example. Heaven help the team that is forced to go up to QLD.

Isn’t it the NRL… National Rugby League? I’d prefer to see Warriors dropped.

Underperforming team.

All the money saved should be directly spent on grass roots. Invest in Rugby League heartland and the country competitions.

The administration has lost sight of the real game and the real people.

An Island of Origin game down the track would be a crowd puller as well. The North Island and South Island are as competitive as Queensland and New South Wales.

The Roosters have the box seat in snaring Jason Ryles to be the assistant coach under Trent Robinson in place of the departing Craig Fitzgibbon to the Sharks next year. Looks like a 3 year deal. Because of Covid etc Ryles could not go to the UK to help out Eddy Jones so the Roosters quickly pounced.

Ryles played with the Roosters after leaving us and then the Storm. He will do a good job with defence and skills. The Roosters always get their man.
