The Rumours Thread

I think they are both good but I definitely think you are right. Liddle has been under appreciated. He's has been awesome, and has contributed much more than I expected. The defence and the attacking from dummy half, as well as many of the little things that go unseen. Cook has proven his versatility and I'll be similarly glad to have both of them in the 17.
I guess my point is, we utilise 4 Forwards on the bench currently.
It’s a massive risk should there be injury to a half or outside back

But with no injury in the backs, it plays into our strength, the power game!

But in 2025, we utilise a specialist hooker on the bench? How has that resolved our coverage for ‘outside backs” or improved the power game? (And don’t tell me Cook in centres – Shite!!!)

It just seem a big shift from what has been happening, and working, bar inopportune injury. I thought a quality, bigger body, 14 a better investment along with an upgrade in cover, being Connor Muhleisen - Goneski!.

But, although confused, I’m sure Flanno will make it work.
Will be interesting to watch and I’m happy to be wrong.

Anyway, I'm off to hone my NRL coaches resume. Wonder for what team I'll be applying? Won't be the Dragons. They are sweet for a good coach!

Cook or Liddle are good enough to justify a utility role on the bench in my view. Look what happened in a couple games this year and in particularly the ANZAC game when we had Eisenhuth at centre. Could have done with Cook on the bench but also Liddle doesn't do 80 minutes well.

Some teams have a hooker/utility on the bench, some don't. Wishart on the weekend for example. I don't know what is exactly the plan from the coach but with three huge mobile players and eith Cook or Liddle on the bench I would see as an improvement. Not necessarily every game. Then there is always injuries and depth plus the fact he came cheap.

The signing of Cook does not resolve our major issues which are in the backs and prop. That's a whole other story.
Identifying the players we need and getting them to sign on the dotted are two completely different things. It has completely devastated us for years.

Honestly its so easy to get complacent that we are currently running: one 7, one 9, one 1, one 6.. and somehow we have barely had an injury this year, but compare us to many other sides in the comp that have literally not even had their main spines on the field at the same time.. for huge chunks of the year.

Cook gives us that 1-2 punch, it stops us trying to run liddle 80mins a week, and it gives us some proper cover for injury in that position, and im sure he could cover halves injuries during a game... plus I actually think hes going to bring us to life in the back end of halves... but thats a bonus on top.

One of Flanno's jobs is going to be getting real cover for 1,6,7 now.. if we sign Holmes + MaxF, then im ok because if Sloan goes down, Val goes to 1, Max to RCtr, Suli to LCtr.. its disruptive but its the bare minimum if we arent signing anyone else... if we have a couple of injuries though.. its gonna get ugly fast... we lost a lot of nsw cup depth.. or rather we will if rava+bird go.

The other position we need to cover is 6&7, there are a few ways we can do this.. but we need Marshke or better.. honestly how many serious halves injuries do you see in almost every side.. like we dont want to throw away a year when we get 1 key injury.. thats where we are trying to get too.. but it takes time because some of that 2nd or 3rd string depth should be the young ones in NSW Cup.. which isnt really happening yet.. its still a work in progress, we are developing those 17-18-19yr olds now... toughening up our Flegg team and eventually Cup.. but it takes years to make first graders out of them.

I can however understand that Flanno wants his pack to kick butt... thats his priority and im good with it.... he wants to be able to bash teams every week and keep his team in the contest at the very minimum... I can get behind that idea.

I forgot that Josh Papalli only has a MO for 2025 at Canberra

Just turned 32yrs of age

I wonder if we are considering a two year contract for big Paps as our spearhead starting prop role we are trying to secure ?

Off Topic - sorry I couldn't find that blasted thing on refs and the bunker thread so I've decided to put this post on this thread.

Looks like Kasey Badger has been told by the NRL that she cannot be in the bunker for any Souths Games. The article is from the DT and behind a paywall, so if someone can get it, it would be appreciated.

This is the reason why Kasey Badger has been banned for refereeing Souths games -

I said in another post about questioning all officials as to what teams they each follow so that they do not do any officiating of games involving the team they follow.

Seems the High performance center is approved and construction will start pretty quickly.

The Dragons' $60 million High Performance Centre at Fairy Meadow has received the green light, after a decision was deferred due to "ambiguity" over some issues.
The plans were lodged with Wollongong City Council in October 2022, but any decision rested with the Southern Regional Planning Panel.
The facility, to be built on the northern side of the Innovation Campus, will include two playing fields, locker rooms, state-of-the-art gym, aquatic recovery centre, full physiotherapy facilities, spa and lecture theatre.
That panel approved the development just days ago, but it came after some concerns raised in a meeting in May this year saw a decision deferred.

"Whilst the panel accepted that council had undertaken a comprehensive assessment of the development application, it agreed that there was some ambiguity in relation to several matters that in the panel's mind required clarification," the planning panel's decision stated.
"This included mattes raised by community members. It also noted that the applicant had objected to several key conditions recommended by the council relating to development contributions, flooding, and stormwater management."
The panel requested further information around how the centre would not have an impact on existing street parking, details around the noise impact assessment relating to the community field and justification for its plan to defer the final design of the building and car park as it related to flooding and stormwater outcomes.
In terms of the design and flooding, the Dragons requested that "portions of the proposed building and car park south of the building that is in the floodway" could be constructed either at grade or on piers to allow unimpeded storage and conveyance of floodwater.
The council did not support this because amended plans and flood modelling were required. "The amendment to the condition in isolation without consideration of this information is not appropriate," the council report stated.
In response to the concerns over whether the 60 allocated parking spaces would be enough, the Dragons said car-parking studies has shown "there is sufficient car parking available on the Innovation Campus, and proposed to be provided through the development, to satisfy the demands of the further HPC without any reliance upon on-street parking".

Council traffic planners assessed these studies and concluded that the level of spaces "should be sufficient" to avoid on-street parking.
The panel's eventual approval noted the Dragons had agreed to all the conditions proposed by the council.

It also noted the residents' objections over flooding, parking and the visual impact of floodlighting on the field, adding these and other concerns had been addressed in the revised conditions of consent.

Dragons CEO Ryan Webb said the approval marked "an exciting time for the club" and was hoping the facility would be finished in 18 months.
"We've been working with a builder for the last few months, finalising design and costs," Mr Webb said.

"Now we have the DA, we can hopefully bring that to a head and sign a contract to begin construction in the next couple of months."
The aim is to see the Dragons teams training at Fairy Meadow the bulk of the time, rather than the current situation where things are split between locations.
"Currently, we run out of three to four different facilities," Mr Webb said.
"That's testing not just from a player perspective but from a staff perspective because you miss a lot of cross pollination, and the chance to learn and converse with one another on a daily basis.
"So this will bring everyone under one roof from our men's, our women's, our community programs, our junior programs.
"And I think that can just only benefit everything we do."

Man the language the council like to use is a tough read... but thank goodness we can finally get started on this.. sounds like Webb has already got builders lined up in advance.
