I agree he hasn’t stepped up at origin level, but there’s very few halves
Hynes is a fullback who was stuck behind a better fullback at the Purple Cheats and thus went to market after a good year filling in as a utility Mr. Fix It much like Wishart has been used in this years Purple Cheat's side.
Went to Sharks as an unproven and dare I say manufactured halfback. Like the rest of the Sharks, he's a bit of flat track bully. Great when everything is humming along nicely. Goes missing just like Hunt when it counts. And lets get real, 2nd best halfback? Nonsense. He's not even in the top 5 NRL halfbacks. Cleary, Hughes, DCE, Walker, Moses all easily in front of him. Dearden too if you count him as a 7.
Sure, there's a bit of a Trindall bandwagon and he's still got a lot to prove but you can tell he's a genuine half with footy smarts - they're rare. His performance last weekend was masterful.

Now, if you were to offer me Hynes as a fullback - I'd take him instantly. But if you were to offer me a choice between Trindall and Hynes as halfback - I'd pick Trindall every single time.
You can’t call him a flat track bully and then say walker (who’s probably the biggest flat track bully in the league bar maybe our own hunt) is easily in front of him. Hynes won the Daly M and it wasn’t a fluke, 100% I agree the he needs some work on the mental side to help him in big games. But his best football is absolutely top tier.

Great assessment by you.

This place can be very quick to get on a bandwagon.

Trindall has to do a lot more and more often to achieve the status some in here have already given him.
It is fear of missing out or never getting anyone so people want to jump in with big money and long contracts that should be reserved for the proven cream of the crop. But if that player goes off the boil, it becomes a big problem for the balance of the squad.

OTOH, maybe I have just been burned by Corey Norman and Hunt.

Hynes just doesn't seem like a big game player. Similarly to Hunt, he does well when the team is on top, but doesn't seem to be able to dig a team out of trouble or take the big moments. Trindall is younger, has all the skills and doesn't appear to get overawed by the moment. Personally, I think he'd be a great buy if he can be pried out of Cronulla.
Apparently great mates with Kotoni Staggs, would be very happy with both of them in our backline.

He was a complete makeshift halfback. He always played 6 coming through the younger grades, and his skill set was never suited to be a first grade 7. That is perfectly on show now. Good player, not a good halfback.
Oh I definitely agree, he is clearly not a 7 but that is what the Sharks signed him for. As has already been said, he is the younger version of Hunt. Good player, but not a halfback.

Trindall is not some flavour of the month rookie though. tbh I've liked him since his Newtown reserve grade days when he was flashy five eighth. He's had a very well-rounded gradual progression to this point, with his game on the weekend merely another step in that. It's really only his second full season as a top level halves player after biding his time behind Matt Moylan in 2022, and to boot he's been playing alongside Hynes who demands 70-80 touches of the ball per game - similar to what Ben Hunt with us. But Trindall has had his role increased of late, showcasing his ability to manage a game, and on the weekend actually had more touches than Nicho did.

He's about to hit the absolute golden years of his career. He's coming off contract. The Sharks will struggle to afford him and may even feel that with Atkinson there they've got cover. With Hunt retiring at the end of next year its a very natural handover to a new 7. Don't be penny pinching with halfbacks. Go all in

Walters gone from Broncos.

They haven't mucked around, the Broncos management. How long did we have Mary before he got sacked?

Hmm grand final one year, gone the next, certainly not the Dragons way of doing business, we would have been bumbling around well into next season
