He was the backup at Titans to Tanah Boyd who was the backup to Foran. And now he is off contract and without a club.

LPT is not a back-up. He has not even played NRL yet. And he has not been cut by Saints, but I am certain that if he were cut, there would be at least 15 other clubs after him by breakfast the next day.

The Titans have cut the uninjured Weaver and he has had no other offers. That is not much of a recommendation.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but if you’re in the top 30, not playing nrl, is that not the very definition of a backup? I’ve watched a whole bunch of junior rugby league. Youngsters have excited me from the day I became a fan and Tom weaver can play rugby league. He’s just small, much like jt who was another unwanted half. A players potential is not determined by contract status. Many “unwanted” players are the stars of our game today, Paps included, and liddle was one of our best last year

Edit: the 2 very players you’re all creaming your pants over: Atkinson and May were both unwanted and unsigned by Penrith and Melbourne respectively

I suggested an off contract half for a team that is desperate for one, and is realistically Buckleys of getting a good one, in an open forum. I’m not the biggest fan of weaver but since you like to shoot suggestions down I presented some arguments for. Who’s your choice of half? The situation is bad. That means that we appear to have no really good choices, altho, who knows, maybe Flanno has someone in mind. So the goal is to keep trying to get a quality 2026 half while at the same time trying to stop 2025 being a disaster that sends us back below 12 wins and damages the club's morale.

I guess the best choice is Kyle + Douehi with LKT as cover for both. Douehi is a good footballer with an injury history. But he came back last year and at 350k is cheap. If these three can make it through 2025 healthy, then it is a big step forward in developing LKT while a healthy Douehi is a genuine utility player who is worth keeping.

If Douehi blows another knee, 5/8 will be LKT and Gutho. Yeh, that is bad.

As for Ilias, you can visit the Souths forum and see what they think. They do not rate him.

And I have not mentioned Sexton bcs he won't leave the dogs unless Hunt goes there.

Rewind to a couple of weeks back, and Flanagan said he received 6/7 phone calls from player managers saying they had halves interested in taking Hunt's number 7 jersey.
I doubt we ever had any real interest in Croft or French, so there are probably a few we don't even know about who were tossed up.
Flanagan's latest interview, he says we will sign another half in the next 1 to 2'weeks.
Based purely on what has been reported, it seems Atkinson is top of the list.
For 2025, gut feel keeps telling me IIias.
