There most probably will be underlying reasons why Flanno offered 450k. Maybe the Molo situation influenced the price.

Who knows the offer might have come with a wish for a final offer if our bid is not the highest offer.

I think it will require $1.5 million ( $500 Thou. per season ) over 3 years to entice him to our club. I believe that's fair and reasonable for a frontrower that Flanno is looking for that provides that element of difference.

I suspect that it is complicated because if deemed serious mental health challenges for Molo then the NRL and Dragons will be bound to handle this situation like any employer.

1. Molo will remain employed ie contracted and can use his sick leave

2. That probably means the Dragons will have to retain his top30 NRL spot so a return to work can happen in the future. Yet the complication is no doubt how long the Dragons and or NRL have keep the spot open given his contract to the club end of 2026.

3. If the above two scenarios are deemed legally and medically correct next ……. well my best guess is that the Dragons are either stuck with FMolos contract in the cap like they would if FMolo had done his ACL and is in recovery………and or will have to settle in some sort of capacity ………which will be difficult also

I think there are complications with this which is what Flanagan was alluding to. Let's say he goes through an assessment, is deemed to be mentally ill and released from his contract with some kind of payout. Firstly that process could take quite some time, so we wouldn't be able to fill his spot until well into the season.

Secondly, if he undergoes treatment and recovers, presumably there's no legal reason why he should not be allowed to return to work, for another club. The problem here is that there is no NRL policy for handling this situation and protecting the club from other players potentially using this as an exit strategy. That's why Flanagan was saying this is complicated and he's leaving it to the club, NRL and RLPA to work through.

Whichever way you view it Flanagan's statement has shown that a solution is not imminent. It's frustrating as hell but we have to try and not lose sight of the player's welfare in all this.
