Is a player willing to engage a lawyer and take his case to court worth retaining?
He loses and is forced to play for us , nobody is surprised when he tanks it.
In the end we throw our hands up and say go. The rest is deciding who is compensated, when and how much.

True.

I say cut our losses, let him go and get on with sorting our side out.

Otherwise, this could only get messier from here...

I suspect that it is complicated because if deemed serious mental health challenges for Molo then the NRL and Dragons will be bound to handle this situation like any employer.

1. Molo will remain employed ie contracted and can use his sick leave

2. That probably means the Dragons will have to retain his top30 NRL spot so a return to work can happen in the future. Yet the complication is no doubt how long the Dragons and or NRL have keep the spot open given his contract to the club end of 2026.

3. If the above two scenarios are deemed legally and medically correct next ……. well my best guess is that the Dragons are either stuck with FMolos contract in the cap like they would if FMolo had done his ACL and is in recovery………and or will have to settle in some sort of capacity ………which will be difficult also

Auntie, we also have the problem with the person supposedly making the remark that made frank an emotional wreck. There will have to be some type of investigation, counselling under go re education ,the whole 9 yards.. see franks attitude when he runs out of sickies

It's interesting to see why another club will be interested in FMolo if he does have a serious mental illness issue over comments made? Just like the Dogs player that is taking them to court. I doubt this guy is being chased by other clubs. These guys appear to be fragile and need to be treated with extra care due to their mental state whilst going through their illness. Last thing they need is to be cast out to the public to make judgement on them. If someone in any other workplace requested leave due to mental illness it would not be broadcast to the public.

Players going through mental illness should be handled privately and the media writing up stories and chasing them around to get comments should not be allowed. It can only worsen their mental state not improve it. As soon as a player is going through something, the club should immediately contact the NRL/RLPA to step in and put media bans on the player going through this as a form of support. The club can then report that the player is out with injury indefinitely like they do in the past. Nobody needs to know the exact injury.

The NRL needs to step in and really tighten their rules when it comes to media reporting as the journos seem to not care about the impact their stories have to the player as long as they are getting clicks. Pretty sad. Without the players they have no job so they should protect them especially in times like this. Managers leaking stories to get interest from clubs should then have their license revoked. The NRL should not see this as acceptable.

Well if it was Teflon Haran, they will sweep it under the carpet!

How would anyone here possibly know what we have offered to Hazelton or any other player??
The media has a habit of tossing up contract offer dollars based on what??
When I hear from Flanagan that we have actually made an offer to Hazelton then I will know we are serious about signing him.
If Molo leaves and Hazelton is signed, we may still have enough cash left over to top up some of our youngest and brightest stars.

All of what you say is true. But then Peter V'Landys came out and said he wants players to honour their contracts. So he seems to be inferring it's an attempt on Molo's part to get out of his current contract rather than a genuine health and welfare issue.

In terms of other clubs chasing Molo, I too doubted that other clubs would be chasing him. But then I saw that Roosters still have 5 spots available, Melbourne have 4 spots available, both clubs are down on forward strength. and both clubs don't have any trouble finding extra dollars when it suits them. I remain suspicious.

What if it was actually Teflon haran who made the comment and Frank is making the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the club, claiming mental health so there’s an investigation and haran finally gets dethroned.

Frank's sick-leave runs out soon, thats when the rubber hits the road, we stop paying him.. and we would have to breach him for not turning up.. but what comes after that..

i.e. Unless the NRL or RLPA intervene... and take a stand i.e. if you break contract you cant play in the NRL for 2025 and/or 2026.. then we are going to get backed into a corner, our only path will be to release him so we can replace him. I dont think Frank has done his image any favours out of this.

No matter what his NRL future, opposing teams are going to use it against him

For mine, there are too many unknowns here.

I really don't know what to make of it all. If Frank is struggling with mental health, as someone whom has struggled for decades, then I hope he gets help and moves on.

A decade later and Im still popping Zoloft and stopped Xanax replaced by heavy doses of valium.
It's a bastard of a disease.

Im putting this out there only to reiterate that until we know, then let's keep our powder dry on judgement, as much as I want the Club to succeed.

The whole mental health card is a joke & makes a mockery of genuine cases. The more it’s used the less sincerity i have for it.
