The two main positive points IF Klemmer joins the Red V :
1 Tigers will be covering majority of his " Freight "
2 Incentive .. Another player that will be mad keen to prove his former Coaching Staff and Club wrong by playing out of his skin for his new Club ..
Has the fear factor about him when 100% switched on ......................
Klemmer is ultra competitive......... A Flanno pre-requisite.

If Klem is on $650k pa in 2025 and a MO 2026 which maybe $500k pa at best if the club took it up………u would guess that the Tigers will have to pay $150k min of the 2025 contract

I heard Molo was on $550k pa

I feel Klem is an upgrade and still allows us the opportunity to go after Hazelton 2026

plus keep shifting a couple spots in 2025 with a possible new recruit or two

if we can move out Lawrie or Rava I would still go for Pahulu for impact off the bench and he won’t be much more than $400k pa max for say a two year contract

Pretty tall pack emerging

Apologies I’ve heard it’s a one year deal , club still going hard for Hazelton
Interesting.. I think Klemmers manager would be pushing for 2.. how are we going to turn him down.. but Klemmer might back himself I suppose to get that extension.. we shall see...

Money wise, I think our "the Dragons will require adequate compensation" press release comment is just a bit of froth and bluster.. maybe hes trying to push for a modest transfer fee.. but 2025 money isnt really our problem, im not even sure what would we would do with the cash... unless.. we could use it to buy-out 1 or 2 of the 2026 contracts (i.e. Lawrie/Rava) or even just Fifitas in 2025.. and therefore stay in the player market for anyone who shakes loose during the season.

Dragons move on Klemmer, Molo granted permission to speak to rivals

ByAdrian Proszenko

February 19, 2025 — 11.26am

St George Illawarra have granted Frank Molo permission to negotiate with other clubs, with unsettled Wests Tigers star David Klemmer poised to fill the breach.

After initially having his release request blocked, the Dragons have opted to allow Molo to explore his options.

“The club’s concern has been Frank’s welfare,” said Dragons chair Andrew Lancaster.
“Frank and his manager have been told they can officially talk to other clubs but if they want a release from the contract Frank entered into then the Dragons will require adequate compensation.”

Klemmer remains contracted to the Tigers, but could become a free agent after being overlooked for the side’s upcoming trial against Parramatta.

Molo for Hazelton would make it easier for thee Sharks to let Hazelton to go the Saints in 2025 and beyond.
If Saints can land Klemmer and Hazelton this week and lose the Molo Brothers that will be a win win. That quote by Lancaster that he want's some sort of compensation surely was thrown out there towards the Sharks to tempt them for a swap.

But in all honesty it is sad how a player can kick stones and get a release. If he was going through something mentally and by all reports sounded quite serious that he could not even attend training, then that is a pretty speedy recovery.

No mucking around.
Molo for Hazelton
Lawrie for Klemmer

Clean swap. All contracts are canceled and players and new clubs just negotiate new contracts.

You guys can’t seriously be pondering klemmer? He is absolutely useless. I think flano has his eyes set a bit higher than that. Only way you could possible even consider it is if it was a one year deal
We should offer him a no year deal. Just joking…. he might be a decent recruit to a team of players who have individual points to prove.

It doesn’t work like that.

Guys are entitled to the contract guarantees they signed in good faith. That’s what a contract is. A guarantee. They can be negotiable by mutual consent, but you can’t just sack someone without due cause or just move them on if they don’t agree.

Bench prop for mine. Rotate with Guler so we have atleast 1 player to take the tackle 1 carriers.

Starting: Cook/Guler/JDB/Couchman. Bench: Liddle/Klemmer/Couchman/Sele. Body shapes & strengths compliment each other.

Imo Klemmer & Guler playing together would make us defensively too slow, need to split their mins.

Flanno to do a Bellamy & tell Klem if he gives away penalties he'll be playing reserve grade. Ala Ryles at the storm.

Gutho, Cook & Klemmer would've played a few rep games together too? origin & aus?

I haven’t been paying attention to Klemmer’s form, I can only go by the stats provided which seem ok and certainly not any worse than Molo. What I do know is that he hasn’t played under a decent coach in a while, ( Knights and Tigers) and I’m sure Flanno would be able to bring out the best in him. Also adds some much needed size to our pack. It’s a yes from me.

Why Klemmer’s likely Dragons move could give Tigers $1 million war chest

David Klemmer’s likely move to St George Illawarra will give Wests Tigers a war chest of up to $1 million to further add to one of the NRL’s most extensive roster overhauls.
After initially denying his request, the Dragons have granted Francis Molo permission to negotiate with other clubs. That move will cause a domino effect that is expected to result in Molo moving on and Klemmer coming in to replace him. It is a significant development for the Red V, who will be able to replace one former State of Origin prop with another.
Molo’s destination remains unclear, but there is no thought of a straight swap. Tigers coach Benji Marshall is happy with his front-row rotation, which includes Terrell May, Royce Hunt, Fonua Pole, Alex Twal, Alex Seyfarth and Samuela Fainu.
Klemmer hasn’t officially asked for a release but, given he hasn’t been selected in the Tigers’ two trial matches to date, has almost certainly played his last game for the club. The Tigers already have room in their salary cap and, pending the payout figure for Klemmer, could have up to seven figures to splurge on more signings.
Instead of spending their money on a prop, the Tigers can look at other positions after an aggressive recruitment drive already netted Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva, May, Hunt, Jack Bird and Jeral Skelton.
Klemmer is on a deal worth about $675,000 a season, about $100,000 more than Molo’s annual salary at the Red V. The former Knights and Bulldogs forward would automatically trigger a contract extension if he played a reported 14 games this year for the Tigers, but that contractual clause is expected to soon become a moot point.

The Dragons initially had no appetite to release Molo, who claimed to take exception to a comment made by a staffer. The Maroons front-rower has been on leave for several weeks and has now almost certainly played his last game for the club.
The Red V are seeking compensation, the final sticking point before a release is agreed.
"The club’s concern has been Frank’s welfare,” said Dragons chairman Andrew Lancaster.
“Frank and his manager have been told they can officially talk to other clubs, but if they want a release from the contract Frank entered into, then the Dragons will require adequate compensation.”
Klemmer’s likely arrival will be a boost for the Dragons, who pulled out of negotiations with Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Daniel Saifiti, Stefano Utoikamanu and Terrell May.
Molo, meanwhile, could potentially earn more money elsewhere given the dearth of quality props on the market.
However, it could mark the last time a player who breaks their contract can agree to a pay rise elsewhere.
ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys has flagged the prospect of head office stopping the practice of players agitating for a release and then immediately walking into a more lucrative job.
"I’m an old-fashioned person and if you do a contract, you honour it,” V’landys told this masthead last week.
“A contract is a contract, unless there are circumstances well beyond your control – if it’s unforeseen, then fair enough. You get the benefits of the contract, so you should honour the contract, that’s my view.”
