This is a good interview with Tim about the job

Sounds very positive.
Dare I dream for the Dragons brand??
Major sponsor second richest Australian.
Substantial government investment onto new COE.
Promisingly early signs of team cohesion under a very good coach.
Oh how I dream of the Dragons being a powerhouse club second to none whose fan base covers the entire NSW south eastern seaboard and beyond.

We all do

This thing is we SHOULD be the team he says we are. We should be the biggest and the best in the game off the field for engagement and brand recognition. The NRL should need us over at Vegas to make sure its a chance of being successful etc

But we will see

St George rides again!

It would literally be bliss. What we once were, we become again now.

And the other thing is, how many great young players move through a club in ten years? The NRL is an unstoppable talent conveyor belt. Why tie your club to just one player for ten years? Madness.
At the end of the day the clubs know they won`t get 10 years out of a player like Brown, so really it is $13m over 5 or 6 years when they think they might be able to win a premiership with him, they are prepared to write the balance off. The ten years/ $13m is just the carrot to get him to sign.

Except that $1.3m per year will still be in their salary cap in those letters years so can’t write that off.

They don`t care, as I said, if they can get a premiership within those 5 or so years they won`t care if they don`t win another one for the balance of the contract. The extended contract with the big money is just to get him to sign.

Not smart. Newcastle have the basics of a good team, they have good juniors, loyal fans. They can win a comp without mortgaging their future with a player who, maybe I am wrong, seems to me to be a bit mercenary.

I say this as a fan of a club who has done this twice, with Hunt and Norman.
