I agree that it is showing vague signs of maybe being capable of positive change. Occasionally Lancaster makes some encouraging noises. The new CEO might be a good thing. But it's too early to tell. And a lot of damage to fix.
As I said in my last post, the very last time their decision making prowess was openly tested they made a horrifyingly idiotic choice - Ryles - and fortunately for us, somehow did a Bradbury and fluked Flanno. It doesn't inspire confidence does it? When and if it becomes time to extend Flanno, will they stuff that up?
It's impossible for me to forget where 12 years of mismanagement got us to and how long it will take to reverse.

I'm glad we have Flanno as he will get us back to being a successful club, but, it is extremely premature to right Ryles off as a "horrifyingly idiotic choice" based on Round 1 against the Storm. Ryles has completely revamped Parra and new systems take time to implement. Look at the dogs under Cialdo......1st year and they were in contention for the spoon. Now look at them. I refuse to make a judgement on Ryles or anybody after 1 game.

At the very least wait to see if we beat Parramatta in Round 5 before laying the boot in!

My opinion on Ryles has got nothing to do with Rd 1 vs Melbourne - most teams are on a hiding to nothing playing Melbourne in round one every season. A lot of teams would have suffered the same fate, maybe even us.

Ryles was a terrible choice for us because we needed someone who knew what he was doing - and building - not a rookie who was learning on the job. To this day it still boggles my mind the board didn't even consider Flanno - easily the best credentialed coach on the market at the time - until Ryles knocked us back.

My critique of Ryles is based on the opinion that he was not the right coach for us at a crucial time in the club's history after the board, then Price, Mc Gregor and Griffin had brought us to our knees and within millimetres of a wooden spoon over a 12 year period. He might indeed go on to be a good coach - but thankfully he'll be using some other team to get off the training wheels first.

p.s I will say though that when he makes it his first order of business to get rid of his best forward and his second best player and captain and then doubles down on picking one of the best wingers in the NRL in the centres it certainly doesn't inspire confidence in his nous and vision.......

McGregor made the semis twice, which is better than anyone since Bennett.

Jesus H Christ. If you were happy with anything McGregor did you're very easily pleased. Replace McGregor with an actual NRL quality coach we might have swindled a premiership in 2018.

I’ve said it before and will say it again, at the time Lawrie was one of our better forwards and a young local junior. Sure that it probably an indictment of our poor squad, but the decision to resign him was absolutely the correct one at the time.

Say it as many times as you like and it will still be utter bollocks. Lawrie has never been anything but reserve grade quality. Re-signing him showed just how unambitious, clueless and committed to mediocrity our coach and board were at the time.

ROOSTERS TARGET WANTAWAY DRAGONS STAR



The Sydney Roosters have emerged as a potential landing spot for disgruntled Dragons prop Francis Molo.

The Daily Telegraph reported the Roosters have shown interest in Molo, who is negotiating a release from the Dragons after a falling out with a staff member.

The Roosters were blown apart by the Broncos in Round 1 and are desperate to sure up their middle.

The Dragons meanwhile, are trying to offload Molo to sign Tigers prop David Klemmer to bolster their front row stocks.

The Dragons were blown away by the Bulldogs early in their Round 1 loss and need reinforcements in the pack with Molo unavailable while he sorts his release.



The 30-year-old Molo has scored 10 tries in 138 NRL games for the Broncos, Cowboys and Dragons since his debut in 2014 and would give the Roosters much needed grunt up front after the departures of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Terrell May.
The Dragons are waiting for Molo to repay a significant amount of money that was advanced to him last year, before releasing him to allow Klemmer to join their ranks.

Ciraldo decided he wanted to build a high-pressure, 80 minute team. I suppose that is what the wrestling-punishment scandal was about last year. Hard discipline. But it is difficult to maintain high pressure for 80 minutes. They slacked off against us in the last 20 minutes and we might have caught them. And we are not yet a top eight team. I doubt Bulldogs will be top four this year.

My example was to illustrate that new coaches/playing styles take time to reap rewards. Ciraldo had a shxt first season at the Bulldogs but that undoubtedly changed in 2024. This season is anybodies guess.

Ravalawa will go to Souths but likely he returns back to Dragons for 2026. It does get the Klemmer deal done sooner but not entirely ideal

I hope we only have to cover Klemmer for 12 months. But in any case, if Tigers are picking up a slice of the tab, we may be swapping a $550k player for a (say) $300k player. So there's $250k we can use perhaps to retain youngsters.
