Dragons bolster pack as star prop resolves Tigers dispute

David Klemmer has played his last game for the Wests Tigers and is on his way to St George Illawarra following weeks of conjecture about his contract status. SEE THE DEAL AND HIS LIKELY DEBUT

Legally you are probably correct hence my 'not sure it makes a difference'

But what does it matter if he "came back on time" if he refuses to train?

To me, it stinks of someone maximising payments, then playing a mental health card, 6-8 weeks after the event, with the goal of reneging on his contract.

Ricky Stuart has an expression that is fitting, 'weak gutted dog!'

Perhaps I'm just too 'old school'
Because he came back, that's the point, he was meant to be at training after his annual leave on a certain date and he came back, so he has fulfilled that obligation, he then asked for sick leave, that has ended, so up to that point he has done nothing wrong, you can't ask for any of that money.
Legally as far as i can tell, he is sweet on that part, ethically and morally is another matter..

Actually, is that corrrect? I thought he just didn’t show up initially, then said he wanted to leave a,d went on sick leave. I’m not sure of this, but differences in the process mean a lot, and my understanding is that he wasn’t up front with the issue and tried to play games.

I suspect the dragons are cranky because Frank had no intention of coming back (bar maybe showing up in his car to drop off his brother), so saints feel like they have been denied a chance to find a replacement.. but if its just a quibble over the dates of annual leave.. I mean I agree who cares...

Honestly I think its more than that however.. I mean there is definitely a childish component... i.e. a pi$sing contest.. but that said the next time a player manager wants to pull this stunt at the club... they wont.. this little attempt to get a commission for himself... has really smeared the player manager, and franks reputation.

Agree!

My POV is purely ethical

The fact he is demanding more money for a new club is further evidence it's more than an 'offensive' comment.

Happy should they eventually cease calling for repayment, and piss him off

We need the free spot for another mid season opportunity

Indeed, it would seem it really has backfired on them both and if serves as a deterrent to others then the whole painful mess will be worth something...

POSS
"Most of defensive probles originate in the forwards and than transfer out to the wing following passes outside. In my day the fullback followed the ball when this was happening and filled the gap in defense between the center and the winger. Coaches always instructed the wingers to hold their groung and mark the opposite winger. The lock and fullback to cover and gamps created by the opposition."

..............

depends on what team you are playing and even then moving between sliding defence and up an in defence

wingers though are asked to be much more involved in squeezing the space in or sliding out........the FB cant be everywhere

NRL
Soccer
AFL

the wingers and the FB have the primary responsibility to open or condense the teams defence

Well flannos final word, he’s not interested in Molo right now. So far as he’s concerned he’s unavailable and he just doesn’t have time to waste worrying about it.

I agree with that, he’s got to play the hand his dealt with and look forward.

Klem rocked up this morning and straight into it. They are assessing where he’s at physically at the moment. That gives them the platform to work from. He’s had some time off, at his stage of his career and age, these breaks from high impact are helpful.

It was also good & interesting when he spoke about and emphasised spacing and systems instead of mentality and other intangible muck.

At least one of those tries was off a forward pass, but do you tell players at the video sessions they were harshly dealt with?

I’m wondering if his reference to supporting those players not quite in position was code for “ we was robbed.”

He’s sounds straightforward but under deconstruction, he’s a bit more complex and quite cautious.

Bennet is the master of not answering questions.

Silly question about Ilias. I reckon he’s going to be mentally bolstered playing against his old club who basically trashed him. It was pretty brutal.

Youve got a pile of players from other clubs wanting to prove a point. That’s part of the character of your season.

You should beat South’s I’d think. I’m not against them, but you look stronger.

Good to hear. Fortunately timing-wise having the bye means he can be properly assessed and get accustomed to our structures before he's thrust into a match.

Flano's approach is one of a seasoned coach who knows what gets results.

Oh and we was robbed, twice!

Yeah he tried to inform without giving away too much.

When journalists talk about last year, it may as well be last century as sides and conditions change so radically.

In one way, being robbed should lessen the impact of the loss mentally apart from the frustration with officials.

But is done is done.

I remember Kevvie just losing the grand final and some of his first thoughts were on next season. That was impressive.

I hope he didn’t play the tape!

Hey I bet Ryles would. You must be so pleased you missed that bullet…zing!!

At the beginning of the off-season, Flanno knew which players he did not want to keep and which he did. AFB was a number one priority and maybe he should have paid overs for him to make things work From that point on Flanno should have started to shed the players he did not want to keep and progressively replaced them with recruits or juniors.

With Hunt, Rava, Lawrie, Lomax and a few others gone, Holmes, Gutherson, and maybe one other first-grade prop may have been recruited, with remaining gaps being filled by promising juniors.

Yeah, I think that’s right. I think he said he was light on big men.

But the trick is to get big guys for the pack with big motors. You’re better off having a smaller guy who can go all day, so long as he’s effective.

The interesting thing about our game is you can players who can influence an outcome from almost any position they play. From Critta to Ponga, Hass, To’o etc.

And as the roosters showed last night, if you can get enough willing players, you can make a good fist of it.

Hazelton was for 2026 though, we need someone for 2025.
Seeing Hooks name in your post triggered me a bit here, you cannot draw any parallel between Flanno and Hook. One is a winner, the other a loser.
If Flanno gets Klemmer, he’ll be a good signing and play well.
If Hook signed Klemmer, he’d be a terrible signing and play badly.
One can coach and gets the best out of players, the other can’t.
Klemmer is another rubbish signing to add to all the other rubbish your man the drug cheat coach has brought to our great club. How many different insipid player signings have you now defended under this fraudulent coaching regime?

Flanagan now has the team he wanted and is off to a very predictable crap start to the season.

As I've told you for years, the whole club needs a clean out from the top down, Flanno is not some magic solution, he is part of the problem and needs to be moved on immediately.
