LKT and Atkinson are both five-eighths. Our only potential NRL halfback, Reed, is about two seasons away. Without a field goal expert, we are likely to see one or two more 1-point losses. We need a star halfback to see us through until Reed is NRL ready.

We have been very fortunate to be able to promote a few very talented young forwards to our NRL 17 while at the same time being unfortunate to lose Eagn and R Counchman to season-ending injury.

I'm glad our back 3, Gutherson, Lawson, and CT are finally on the paddock this week.

I'm open to the idea of Sexton coming aboard but after both Flanagan and King Togia had standout games against the Knights, I'm probably a bit torn- about Kyle in particular. That double pump that put Sua over for a try is the sort of ball play and guile I look for in a half. The pommy halves (Tommy Bishop, Alex Murphy, David Bolton etc) had it in spades in the old days before limited tackles brought kicking into the game in a big way- I'm not convinced for the better.

Bottom line, our halves did well last week but against makeshift halves who made them look good by comparison. The Dolphins with Katoa and Nikorima will provide a far sterner test for the Dragons. Our halves are running more and game management from Kyle in particular is improving but unless one of them develops a bigger boot , we may need Ilias to play a role. As far as I know, Atkinson will not provide much of a kicking solution- he's a running 6.

Metcalfe would be worth a shot from the Warriors. Off contract 2026 but may get out on compassionate grounds. Very good half that seems to have got over his hamstring issues

If we can jag Metcalfe and have a halves combination of 7 - Metcalfe and 6- Atkinson from 2027 we will be in a greater position. I know that is virtually a year and a half away but for futures sake, the club needs to make this happen. In the meantime, keep Kyle at 7 and LKT at 6 and hope that they will "hold the fort" well before then.

I think I'd rather persist with the problem child we have rather than take on someone else's.

I'm not sure there's much difference between them.

Cobbo has additional size but Sloan outdoes him in pace.

They both suffer from lack of intensity and mental toughness.

It's a swap not worth considering imo, even if it was possible.

1. We should aim for a top-grade halfback who is available from 2026. 2. The fifth position can be contested between Atkinson and LKT.

Personally, I can’t imagine anything worse than trading Sloan for Cobbo.

I would like to see a Sloan/ Cobbo swap but that would reduce funds available to sign a marquee prop and a marquee halfback.

If Cobbo came wither Gutherson or Cobbo would have to replace Suli at center with Suli going onto the bench as an edge forwards.

But you want Sloan gone because he’s apparently lazy and disinterested. Have you watched Cobbo lately?
Sorry, it makes no sense to me whatsoever. Not only do I disagree with the general consensus re Sloan‘s lack of interest / abilities, I can’t think of a more glaring example of exactly the same issues than Cobbo.
