Lewis Dodd given permission to leave Souths, to which they would be willing to chip in a sizable portion of his salary.

For mine, he hasn't adapted well to NRL style of play, however, the heavily subsidized part sort of gets me interested. But, only if we could move Ilias on.

Thoughts?
There is no price that could get me interested in Loser Dudd. Definite no. Back to England you'd think

Let’s be honest, Dodd has been treated just as poorly as Ilias yet the media ( Anasta ) and his goon mates have barely said a word about it. Scared to upset Wayne??
NRL 2025: Wayne Bennett tells Lewis Dodd he’s free to leave the Rabbitohs, NRL 360, Braith Anasta, player transfers | news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site for latest headlines

Braith Anasta has described the Rabbitohs’ signing of Lewis Dodd as “one of the great recruitment blunders in NRL history”

I agree Bwaith, right up there with Lachlan Ilias!

The Josh Kerr who came up from Melbourne and basically did nothing for four years I would not want back. He could best have been described as tall- but that's all and I was advocating getting rid of him well before his eventual departure.

The Josh Kerr who's been playing for the Dolphins looks to have had the complete makeover. His workrate, skill and intensity was much better than it was at the Dragons. Was the coaching of Woolff the difference? I'll be interested to see which version turns up if we do indeed re-sign him.

Interesting to note that Billy Burns, Jack Gosiewski and Jackson Ford were all underwhelming at the Dragons but have been showing more to like at their current clubs. Maybe there is something in the coaching theory after all.

I think we can all agree that he was poorly used by Hook y trying to turn him into an 80 minute edge whereas Wayne & Kristian have used him to best suit his game.

He was also used as a front rower for the majority of time under Hook and didn't set the world on fire, the same as he has at the Dolphins.

If he was such a valued player at the Dolphins and in the NRL, it wouldn't be a battle between us and ESL sides to sign him.

Shows how shit our team is. The players you speak of were picked week in and week out at the dragons, regardless of how shit they were. (And they most definitely were) When they were let go, they had to step it up at their new clubs or lose their careers. So they did.
I'm more inclined to think that the common denominator here is that when they were with us they were all quite young and players, like people in general, mature into their mid to late 20's.

Combined with the inescapable fact that when all of these players were with us they were being guided by inferior coaching...

Surprised Stewart isn't locked up long term.

I think he has proven to be the most valuable of the young crop.

Great effort player, nice skills, great defense, big motor and seems prepared to bleed for the jumper.

For mine he is the heir apparent to JDB.

I would be more disappointed to lose him than Latu as he has already proved his worth.

I love him!

Must lock him up long term before Nov 1...
Stewart
Egan
Toga
Couchman brothers

They are all keepers and should be locked up. I'm sure Anderson will ensure this happens.

I believe Liu and Halangahu will also become keepers as well.
We take Dodds and they get Ilias back
Maybe Souths intend to keep Sullivan. Dodds would be a good buy as Glover is moving on, and Doiehi could be played anywhere in the backline. He sure impressed me at 7 last weekend.

There is a huge difference between the ESLeague and our NRL , besides the obvious quality of players we have in our game , but also the high expectations placed upon the players to perform on a weekly basis .

Unfortunately for Dodd he is not quite up to the standard required at present , however perhaps if given another season in the lower grade he would had understood the NRLs style of play far better than he does at the moment and his overall game would had improved enough to be considered for the top grade .

Dodd's attitude may be the problem. If he can be recruited at a gargan price we should have a go.

What is unclear is whether Wayne knew about Dodd's recruitment and approved or whether Ellison recruited Dodd before Wayne came on board.

What is really hard to understand is that it was common knowledge that Dodd had been dropped by St Helens coach Paul Wellens in 2024 while playing ESL for reasons unrelated to his impending move to Oz and why Souths would not have done their due diligence and recruited him in the first place.

Re: Dodd... 700k p.a. for 3yrs.. if we made a mistake like that, there is no way were able to offload that player.. they better be atleast eating half the contract value for 2 more years.

Maybe it is a mistake to take him on, unless of course we can get him at reserve grade reats of say 200k p/a.
