So season 2025, we were competitive through our defensive structure. Couldn’t close out matches, hardly able to make an attacking highlights reel but we did well defensively. So tell me what has changed this year? Pretty much the same squad. I can only suggest that other teams have had a very high focus upon speed. We are getting beaten one-on-one. We have NO speed in our backline. We have bulk. Clearly the game now calls for the fullback to possess speed. Gutho is a very very good player but has no speed. Evidenced a few weeks ago when he got put through the line and got ankle tapped. Sloan is 23 yrs old. He is our only true speedster and so what if he misses a few tackles, so does Walsh. Penriths Edward’s is a complete fullback who has it all. There are plenty in other teams who have speed but are error prone & miss tackles. Let’s start with bringing in speed at the back & pray for the footie goes to bring us some luck in games. I’ve heard the commentators say “the dragons have had no luck today” several times. Time for our coaching staff to shake it up. Nothing to loose now but plenty to gain. Like a win!

I don't beleive players don't want to come when we had the oppurtunity to bring in a half and outside back but flanno vetoed them both

We also had the chance to bring in another bavk but baulked at the price

We may not have bought elite but we are not even trying to improve the squad

These are good points. Well run clubs have consistent performance. Surely by now, everyone has recognised that is the issue more so than the coach. A lot of us thought Flanagan was on a hiding to nothing when he signed with us. Sacking Flanagan fixes nothing.

A lot of us have and have realised for awhile we don’t have the cattle. I’m hoping being under the centre of excellence will entice a few more bigger names to come.

Though there was still a few that Thinkchanging coaches Is always the answer when it’s not most of the time.

You will see the Foran bubble burst shortly As they needed to impress the new coach until they get in his good books.

Holmes, Gutho and Cook should all be dropped. In any case Gutho looks like being out with a hammy, Kyle should be still out with concussion, Fale will be out at least 1 week, so Holmes probably has to stay in the backline somewhere, which is a waste because I don't see him doing any hard work like kick returns. Who knows who Flanno will pick, assuming Flanno is still in the hot seat.

Whatever the case, needs a radical change. If Kade Reed is a champion in the making he will take a berth in the halves and make the most of it. Haven't had decent halves since that controlled the game dominantly since Hornby/Soward.

Our best chance is to offer something new for opposition to have to think about.

I’m hoping we do get fuller, probably rather him than drinkwater. The quick game suits the fuller/faalogo/iongi/gray type fullbacks. These little guys have the acceleration to skip to the outside of the defender and create an instant overlap which would be good on Holmes side. Sloan on a wing would be a must as there’s no point creating space if you don’t have the speed to go through it
