allianz is definitely a much better atmosphere hands down was there for the roosters vs penrith final in 2014 and that was a much better atmosphere than the dogs vs penrith prelim imo

I much prefer Allianz, much better stadium to watch footy. I'll be there with bells on.

I also much prefer Allianz for the same reasons, even if it is harder to get too.

I could be wrong, but I think we also have a pretty good record at Allianz (better than our record at ANZ). Seems to be one of our "luckier" grounds

We've won 19 games at Allianz, lost 21. At ANZ it is worse, 11 games won 18 lost but not awful. Allianz though would better suit, a little less intimidating.

Well done Griffin.

He has had his doubters on this forum but half way through the year he guts the spine, promotes a rookie half from the under 20's, loses not one but 2 international class centres, manufactures a centre, and tightens what was a very sloppy defensive line.

Now we are finals bound with a game in hand.

Well said...and fook the malcontent faux Panther supporters in here.

At least the true believers can enjoy the rest of the season regardless in how far we get.

Yeah damn those pricks with a differing opinion to you!!

You're a dead set clown. If someone doesn't agree that the sun shines out the coaches arse and he cums skittles, we're f**king 'faux supporters'? Get f**ked.

3 grades in the finals again. Since Gus started his, ahem, 5 year plan, we have done this twice, won NSW cup once (or twice?) and won two u20 premierships. It all points to our foundations being quite healthy.

On the negative side, two CEO's left to, cough, pursue other opportunities and two coaches have been sacked. Still some tinkering required in the back office. They must get the next CEO right or it can unravel all the good work when Gus leaves.

Agree with all the above. I think the 5 year plan was more to do with the longer term success of the team. Clubs like the Bulldogs seem to be in the mix every year. We want to be like that. Whenever we have been successful it has been in short lived bursts. With the foundations laid now we should be almost it for quite a few years.

Premierships will come.

If we could have turned 2 close home games where we were leading or level in the last 10 mins and went on to lose into wins this year, we would be top 4.

Dogs round 2, Cows round 6, Titans round 11 all come to mind.

If we make it past week 1 against the dogs (big IF considering our finals record v the dogs), I can't see us or them beating the top 4 side that plays in week 2. Although stranger things have happened.

I don't rate Sharks or Canberra. We finish 6 or 7th that's who we play in week 2

As far as resting guys. It would if we were top 4 need the momentum. I'd give Hardaker a full game and rotate the backs as the game went on. Play the bench guys in longer stints less for Yeo/Merrin etc. Freshen up that way

Agree wholeheartedly with this. Gus' five year plan was about fixing up the admibistration, coaching, playing roster, culture and development system to a point where we could be a long term contender. We are now at the end of the five years and most would agree we are in as good a shape as any club to compete for premierships over the next 5-10 years.

Gould will tell you there was never a "Five Year Plan". It was a comment when he returned to the club on where he'd like to see the club in five years, turned into a "Five Year Plan" by journos.

Our entire team atm is under 30 besides Wallace, most under 25. If anyone is carrying a knock id consider resting them but for everyone else they should be fine, a rest may effect our form negatively for some.

Our team is one of the youngest in the NRL. We are even younger than Newcastle (who are also rebuilding) but we have clearly done a better job at it. Most of our players are locked up for the next few years so this team will only get better (plus Tamau next year).

Once they move on have a look at our 20's now who will be the next wave.

Things really on the up and up. next 5-10 years look good. May not win too many premierships but at least we are going to have a go.

I was going to say, of course we did a better job than Newcastle they hired an ex player as CEO with no experience. Only an idiot would do that.

Then I thought, err, only an idiot would do that and then leave him there even when it's all going pear shaped. There, fixed it.

They also ignored the most successful coach in NRL history who said "I couldn't recommend Stone as a first grade coach. He doesn't have what it takes". They did anyway and then had to sack him 12 months later because "he didn't have what it takes". Some real self inflicted problems at Newcastle.

Whether there was a five year plan or not, plenty of clubs should be looking at how Penrith went about the rebuild. Bennett did it in 1 year at the Broncs but they didn't have nearly the problems we did and others do. Dragons, Warriors, Tigers, Drsgons, Knigjts, maybe Eels all need a bottom up rebuild done properly and given time. I don't think another club has been so patient and methodical and comprehensive at rebuilding.

The thing he did best of all, was not try to rush and sign a bunch of players to try and win a premiership quickly. We probably didn't have the cash and it would take focus away from all the other work that needed doing. Get the right culture, straighten the roster management (60% of the cap on 1 spine player, a centre a back rower and two props) and get the clubs finances and operations straightened by hiring an experienced CEO (since gone sadly. Not sure what he did, but the club did improve under him).

I think we also underestimate the importance of signings like Newton, Ciraldo, Latimore etc. and the role they did in changing the culture at the club.

And Wes Naiqama.
No I am not smoking something. Wes was very professional at training and was always eager to help the younger blokes out with any problems they had. He was a big reason why the side won the NSW cup in 2014.

Well Gus did say that he hired journeymen for "a shift down the mines", I think was the expression he used. And the most important factor was their attitude to create the right culture at the club. Good as they were, Petereo and Lewis were not creating the right culture and it is no surprise they left. Best for all concerned.

same with Jenko, bad attitude which was why he was let go. Gordon went for other reasons and Lewis left as I felt he had a sook when the captaincy was taken from him.
