April 4th may be the true starting point of our season - it's the first time Saints have played like a top 4 team. Purposeful and penetrative in attack, a near flawless kicking game, and ruthless, punishing, watertight defence. Although it was against a Knights team missing Johns, Tahu and Simpson, it was a fantastic performance. We were also without some key players in Ryles, Sims and Firman, which will only add to the value of our effort. Great stuff Saints, let's hope its just the beginning.

I thought we played well, but I thought the knights played like crap, they are in trouble.

Remember last year when they first lost johns the tigers beat them by 40 or something as well.

The win did wonders for our for-and-against and it's always good to shut out the opposition.

But personally, I won't be writing home about anything. A few more victories required... at least half a dozen on the trot.

Definately not the start of anything. Put your money on the Tigers this week. Todays performance was good, but against a team with an attack we would have leaked 20 points.

Ill continue to tip against the Dragons, ( we win when i do ;-) ).

Last weeks game is still deep in my mind and i hope it's still in the players minds. Today means nothing, next week means everything.

US vs THE REST!

I dont want to get carried away with yesterday but it was a very solid performance, especially defensively.

We still handed over far too much ball in our own half though and a decent team would have put points on us. Penrith were outstanding on Friday and we would struggle to hold that attack out if we give that many opportunities.

What is good is that finally the younger players will get that much needed confidence in themselves and that will go a long way towards playing the football weknow they can.

Yep, a good win yesterday - Newcastle could have been stronger with Johns but Saints have had plenty of injuries over the years. That's football & you just have to do your best with what you've got.

I thought the quality of attack was excellent considering the conditions, the forwards dominated the middle of the ruck (unlike the Melbourne debacle) & the boys were "switched on" for the full 80 minutes.

The best thing about yesterday's effort was the fact that there was no let-up when Saints were leading 20-2. There's been a tendancy at the club to "ease off" after getting in front like that, but they really ground Newcastle into the mud.

Well done. Just don't ruin the effort by playing Melbourne-esque against Wastes Tigers next week.

Cheers,
Ben S.
