I'd like to see nrl.tv do a breakdown of each 6 again. Once a week.

no different to Penalties, it’s random and inconsistent. I get the sense each ref has leniency levels and he’ll let one or two go but by third or fourth he calls it. If I was a coach I’d be analysing each refs patterns!

It has been a success so far.

The side effect is it accentuates any talent difference in the teams so we will get more blow outs IMO

As an advocate for consistency (lol Greenburg) over the years, I am of the opinion that this season so far has been reffed, and administered, more consistently than I can remember.

Well done PVL.

So far so good. And credit to most of the refs for adapting too. All are going pretty well, with Klein and Cummins the slowest to adapt.

I think going back to 1 ref has made refs more willing to assert themselves, because they can be sure they're not stepping on the toes of their co-ref.

If you're the SOLE person in charge, the arbitrator of rules, the one with the final word, I can imagine that would a relief.. and pretty liberating stuff.

I think that comes through in the ref performances so far - they can freely police the ruck without worrying about the whole "tag team" aspect of a 2nd ref.. and they have a great instant tool in '6 again' if they see infringements.

So it's official.

Dictatorships are better than democracies.

Re when considering simple changes to the game of rugby league...

LEADERS that do not need to form a committee that requires 30 different stakeholders and 2 yrs of meetings before deciding on what direction to take before another 2 yrs of trialling a new idea and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars all the while fearing a possible 'bubble in the carpet' (as Greenburg once put it when asked when he was going to reduce the interchange) have the intelligence to make a decision that benefits all stakeholders and saves tens of thousands dollars and years working out if the decision was a good one.

Democracy or deadshits?

Take the dictator any day if that is what V'Landys is.

Xi to be an NRL referee, after he stops all our exports.

There are enough bodies in motion on the field, adding another referee only created more interventions and delays.
As the Nike ad says"just do it."

I find it interesting that a single rule change can have a dramatic two fold effect on the game. The fatigue factor in games has certainly come into play and the lack of stoppages has created a less Union style brand of football.

In saying that, it's still early days for the rule. And the coaches are ALWAYS looking for ways to exploit the rule. It will happen eventually. Maybe not this season, but it will happen.

Intentionally hold down on the 1st or 2nd tackle (while you're in the middle of the field) to give away the 6 again as early in the set as possible. The ref won't have the guts to give away any more than 2 or 3 in the one possession. By doing that, it negates so many extra tackles, not to mention the psychological effect giving away another 6 on the last tackle has on the players.

The game is better. V'landys is outstanding. The refs union is looking dumber every week. Absolutely nothing has been lost and a lot has been gained by halving the number of refs. Every change he has made since getting in has been good.

And I say that as someone who thought he was crazy by aiming for such a quick return. Happy to put my handup and say I was wrong and PVL was right

5 mins in the bin for third offence ( 3rd 6 again in one possession) will fix that.

One thing that has raised its ugly head is the number of times players are staying down and grabbing their necks, getting a penalty then bouncing back to be in the play a tackle later! Ferguson is becoming a regular at it, and the refs keep falling for it.last night was the perfect example. Parra were under pressure near their own line. He holds his neck and after the penalty runs back into position laughing!

Rugby League has officially gone soft. What we have now is basically touch footy. A slightly tougher version of touch anyhow.
I for one have now boycotted The NRL this year. Yes my team is an absolute rabble but I can’t work out how the referees are adjudicating the game anymore.

Surely I’m not the only one that is frustrated with what’s going on?

Yep seems that that way but to be honest there doesn’t seem to be many users on this forum that can have a sensible discussion without it turning to shit.
I’ll most probably be stupidly watching my useless side get flogged by the sharpies tonight. I can’t help myself

the touch footy nature of the game play is more to do with dump and run, trying to get fast play the balls. Counter wrestle. That has nothing to do with the refs. It is the coaches.
The NRL has to be given huge credit for being so outspoken and active this last 6 months in trying to fix what the coaches f**ked.
6 again is good. I would like to see all penalties go that way.

Don't watch the Drags tonight. Instead, flick through the vids below to get your fix of what you may be missing...

Enjoy.
